My RE referred me...

to an Endocrinologist to check why my thyroid (TSH) was under active (last test result gave 5.23 when they did a Thyroid screen test panel). I am on Levothyroxine (50mg) for 30 days. I have been on it now for 2 weeks. I have an appointment with the Endocrinologist next tuesday at 1pm.
The next place that the RE referred is to a hematologist (will monitor my blood platelet count that is currently low like 109 - the normalcy count is 140-145). So I have an appointment with a hematology doc next wednesday at 10am. I have been to these two offices before but don't think that I will see the doctors I saw last 3-4 yrs ago.
Anyway I will not get to see the RE until I get cleared by the hematologist to say it is safe for me to go ahead ttc. I will keep the RE nurse informed about the Endocrinologist results too.

I hope everything goes well with both specialists...with the thyroid result, did it not improve at all on Levothyroxine or just not as much as they expected to see? I was diagnosed sub-clinical hypo with a similar level TSH result (4.5-5 range) about 6 years ago and they did have to adjust meds (i'm on Synthroid) a few times to get me into optimal range. I'm sure the Endo can help figure out what's happening and hopefully really quickly for you! KUP on how your appts go.

I am on the med I mentioned but there have been no test done since I started on that. I am sure the Endo can help with that and do another Thyroid panel to make sure the med is helping.

GL! My hypothyroidism was diagnosed first by my RE. Thats one benefit of a doctor who really looks at their patients overall health, they pick up on things others just blame on bad habits.

Exactly, I agree fully with you Sam! My regular OBGYN doc that I saw this past monday for a woman well exam thought that they had done the thyroid panel blood work recently. I disagreed that it was done before my first round of being pg and that was is 2009. Not recent. I really feel that the RE is really caring that all of the thyroid and platelet levels need to be on the recommended level.

Yes it has been a little but I felt more trapped with my original obgyn doctor when he was just prescribing me clomid over and over again with different levels. Like doing the same expecting different results =

Now my RE is making sure I am as healthy as I can be I am happy about helping me get there and that can only mean a healthy environment for pg and healthy baby in the end.
