Well there is a new "breast cancer awareness game," on FB. I receieved the email like most people and was really upset by it. I thought I was only being hormonal but apparently I'm not the only one......
A friend of mine posted this on FB last night and I have to say it was everything I thought but decided to not start an arguement. Check it out!

I reposted that link on my profile yesterday. I had a friend chew me out that there's nothing wrong with the game. I find it hurtful and not raising breast cancer awareness at ALL! It's just another game to "keep the boys guessing." The people who think this crap up just add "on behalf of breast cancer awareness" so that people don't tell them how stupid their idea is. Well, guess what? It's stupid, hurtful, and in poor taste!

Well this one was bad! I ignored the other ones, the purse thing the shoe size, whatever it was stupid. This one bothered me and I love how she put it into words. As someone struggling through secondary fertility problems it just made me smile. My favorite part of her blog was "Yes we were excited for you," and "Yes I do cherish my daughter."
It was just so well put!

My thoughts exactly. It is really lame and I can't help but roll my eyes when I hear about games like this.

I actually went off on 2 people on my profile. It is hurtful and not "funny" at all. Sometimes people just don't get it.

This has been driving me crazy too. At first I didn't know about the "game" and I was wondering what was going on. Then when I found out it was a game, I got kind of mad. I thought about posting a link to several blogs that I had read on it, but I ended up just writing this note. Hopefully, no one gets mad about it. I figure if they do, it will just help me clean out my friend list!
"1. Breast Cancer Awareness month is October not September. and 2. Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is October 15th. Please take a moment to consider those who have suffered losses or who are unable to have children when you decide whether or not to post a fake pregancy status in "support" of breast cancer. I wonder if the person who started this year's theme took into account that many breast cancer survivors may be unable to get pregnant depending on the type of treatments they have had. Well meaning, but ill thought out concept. Not a lecture for those of you who have already posted the status update, just some thoughts to ponder."

I reposted another friends response to it, I still had one person who just didn't seem to get it. Then of course today I get another stupid message about the game.

These games are hurtful on so many levels. First of all, they do not raise breast cancer awareness like they claim. Instead, girls are using the suffering of others, as an excuse to get a giggle out of confused boys. Second, this particular game is hurtful to those who have had pregancy losses and are infertile. This game is also exclusive in that only women can play, when infact, men can also get breast cancer. Finally, most people I know think that playing these games are enough to support breast cancer. They don't go out and you know, donate money or anything.
And I really hope I do not offend anyone with this next paragraph. It is not my intention to hurt anyone who has had a family member or friend that has suff ered from breast cancer. Most of this info I have gotten from people I know personally with the disease or from other groups online. Much of the breast cancer awareness is acutally hurtful to many of those that suffer with the disease. I never realized this until I talked to my mom's friend who is a survivor. It has become sexualized and cute. I saw an advertisement that featured a young beautiful women with the camera focused on her breast and I think it said save second base. First of all, if they had shown an image of a 60 year old woman who suffered from breast cancer and had a masectomy and lost all her hair after chemo, most men would go "ew" and look away. Second, poor men, unable to enjoy a women breasts after a masectomy, never mind the woman who is in pain and suffering and that a victim of breast cancer is more likely to be an older woman. Breast cancer is said to be a woman's issue (though not completely) Where is the awareness for cervical and ovarian cancer, also a women's issue? Are they not cute or sexy enough?
Many companies have taken advantage of breast cancer awareness and they will put pink ribbons on their packaging. I have read in several places that this is only a marketing ploy and that they are really not donating money to breast cancer awareness.
And I am not trying to downplay breast cancer awareness and it's great to raise money for research. I just think they need other ways to do so. And it's a shame if a women's health issue will not raise money it isn't sexy.
