Hey ladies, I have a few questions that I hope you may be able to answer. Do you ovulate after a d&c? DH and I were talking last night and I realized I have no idea how this works. Also how do you track your cycle? Do you start CD1 the day you have the d&c or what? I am just trying to figure out when to expect AF, my d&c was almost 3 weeks ago and prior to getting pregnant my cycles were pretty regular at about 27 days.

Most Dr's recommend you wait at least 1 full cycle after your D&C before TTC, I know that's what my Dr told me. If I were you I would start fresh tracking your cycles starting with your next one, I remember my cycles being completely different after my D&C, different days, different lengths, different symptoms, etc. I would not base anything off your D&C AF nor would I take your previous cycles into account as everything may change for you as it did for me.

It may take a little longer after your D&C to get AF. It took me 37 days in January and my normal cycles are 30-31 days.

That is a good question. I just had a D&C yesterday. My doctor told me that I should have AF in 3 to 4 weeks and if doesn't show they will give me something to make it start up.

I wouldn't even try to track anything now until AF shows. We did IVF and have to wait 2.. maybe 3 cycles before we do another transfer.

Thanks girls. We are not trying, though we really aren't preventing either, I was just wondering what to expect more than anything.

I've always bled for a couple of days after a D&C, and then spotted on and off until my next cycle, always over a month later. I can't answer the ovulation question, I've never tracked ovulation until a few months after a M/C.

With my experience it took 51 days from the day of d&c until I got my first post loss af. I bled off and on for the first two weeks after and got a negative pregnancy test at 3 weeks post loss a positive opk at 5 weeks post loss and 16 days later finally got af. From what Ive been told it can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks <-such an annoyingly large window in my opinion before starting your first post loss af and ovulating before that cycle can be hit or miss since its such a traumatizing and hectic experience for your body and it takes time for everything to get back to normal.

My OB told me on average AF returned 6 weeks after a D&C (although a couple of weeks on either side is fine) and that is exactly what happened for me. I didn't track O until after AF arrived because she recommended we wait a cycle to start TTC again.

As another point of reference, I know I o'd about 2 weeks after the D&E, I got AF exactly 2 weeks after O'ing, so mine came 4 weeks and 1 day after my D&E. My doc told me I should expect it anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. The first D&E I had, I also got AF about 4 weeks after...I am going to start tracking my O this time...I just ordered the Wondfo OPK and HPT tests - Amazon has 40 OPK's and 10 HPT's for just under $10!

My DR told me A/F should return in 4-8 weeks if after 8 weeks then to contact him.
After my D&C A/F was 6 weeks to the day. I used OPKs to track when to expect it and I ovulated right at the 4 week mark.
Most people count the D&C date as CD1 but that cycle is typically a lot longer than normal and I would not count it as a true cycle.
Also after a loss your "normal" might now be so normal again. After each of my losses I felt like I was given a new body to figure out each time.

I had a chemical D&C and bled for about 11 days at which point my bHCG dropped to 182. Stopped bleeding completely, then had a full AF-like bleed 5 days later which lasted over a week. I just had my first positive OPKs since I took cytotec (8/18), which would be right in line with the AF like bleed. So, I'm expecting my "real" AF in a couple weeks. My OB wanted me to wait three cycles (which is ridiculous) before starting Clomid again, but you can be sure that I will be trying (probably an exercise in futility) in the meantime.
