I know we should be taking the Pre-natals while TTC but I seem to be having a hard time with them... The pre-natals that I had last time were chewables without DHA.. For some reason i feel like this had somehing to do with my loss.. So now have Prefera with DHA and the DHA/fish oil pill is giving me a hard time to swallow... You think breaking the DHA pill and mixing it in food (like peanut butter) would still do what it's supposed to do?

They make chewables with the DHA right in them that taste like gummi bears! When I get home, I will tell you what the brand is, because I am at work and can't remember. There are also NatureMade or Nature's Finest (now I can't remember) Prenatals with DHA in them so there isn't a separate pill and they are gel caps, so they are a little easier than a caplet to swallow. Does the pill have an indentation in it that will allow you to break it in half and swallow a half at a time? I'm not sure about putting it in food, but you could ask the pharmacist at your local pharmacy.

They make chewables with DHA??? I would love to know what brand! When You have time please let me know.... The DHA pill that I have right now is filled with fishoil. If they were half the size or were seperated to two gel caplets then it would be soooo much easier.

And they smell funny too don't they? The ones I was taking from NaturesFinest or Made, I really can't remember, were gel, but one of them had popped open and the entire container tasted like fish oil, made me gag everytime I took them
I will most definitely let you know the brand! I found them to be cheaper too, the only issue is that they don't have any iron in them...

Had DH text me the brand - Vitafusion, Amazon.com sells it. Of course due to the lack of iron, you may need an iron supplement, but you can talk to your doc about that, because if you aren't deficient in it, you may not need an additional pill. If you read the Amazon reviews, read the comments associated with them as well, because of course, there is one fairly bad one, but some good points associated with it I did get these at Walgreens, so not necessary to get from Amazon, unless that is more convenient for you!

I wake Women's One a day Pre-natal vitamin with DHA in it. There are two pills you take. So far I haven't had any problems with them. I take them in the evening.

You don't need the dha until you're pregnant, but it doesn't hurt. It's just expensive.

I find that taking the vitamins in the evening makes me less sick feeling. Plus, then they don't interfere with my thyroid meds.

Actually I was just reading today how DHA and one of the other omega-3s might lower NK cell activity, which would be of interest to anyone who has unexplained miscarriages, especially repeated miscarriages.

I agree you really don't need the DHA till after you are pregnant. I had not heard anything about it being the cause of miscarriages.
And I looked last night- the Target brand up&up gummies also have DHA.

I just take the vitamins with the DHA, so I don't need to switch later and I get used to them...I just found the Vitafusion ones. Amazon has them for $10.97 for 90 (you haev to take 2 a day), so that is a 45 day supply. I will have to check out Target, didn't even think of that

I was going to get them through Amazon but then found that I could avoid shipping and go to walmart ($11)... My target didn't have them for some reason.. but I only checked online for store availability.. I also found a coupon to save $1 (expires 10.15.11) Vitafusion Coupon
Funny thing was that I always thought that I needed to be prescribed Prenatals and didn't know that they could be purchased OTC.... Where have I been.... dur....

You misunderstood me. Sorry I didn't explain it. I didn't mean that DHA causes miscarriages. In some studies it has been shown to lower NK cell activity which is GOOD for TTC and preventing some causes of miscarriage. When there's an elevation of certain types of NK (natural killer) cells, your body could be attacking the fetus, since it is composed of foreign cells. So I meant that DHA could be GOOD if there are suspected immune factors in someone who has had repeated miscarriages. I'm still doing a lot of reading on the role of omega 3s in all this, hopefully I'll come across something interesting.
If you do a search on "NK cells and miscarriage" you'll come across a lot of info.
