Hi mamas - I am not new to Justmommies - I have been on and off the board since I was pregnant with my daughter who is now four. I had less time after that and only posted briefly when I was pregnant with my son who is 20 months. Easy pregnancy, easy delivery seemed to be the way things would go, but recently, my husband and I were expecting our 3rd and around 16-17 weeks, we went in for a gender ultrasound and the baby did not have a heartbeat. We were devastated, as was our four year old who had already grown to love our little one.

I had a D&E (I guess that's the term for the D&C in second trimester). That was on August 30th. I bled for about a week or so, and then a week later I thought I had my first normal cycle. It was about the right length though darker than normal (sorry for being so graphic but I'm confused as to what i going on) and then about two weeks after that I had again what I thought was my actual cycle, thinking the previous must not have been it. This one only last three-four days and was much more normal looking. It ended on this Tuesday - but now today (Sunday), I'm having spotting again - it is brownish in color.

I'm sorry to be so explicit but I just want to know if this is normal? My doctor told me we should wait until I have three normal cycles to TTC again. This sounds like a long time, particularly if I can't even figure out my cycle.

Thoughts?
Thank you!

((HUGS)) Welcome to the board. I am so very sorry for your loss. As far as "normal" there is really no normal after a loss. Everyone's bodies react differently. Your bleeding/spotting can be your body still letting go of tissue/lining or it could be your body trying to get back to normal. As far as the waiting 3 months, doctors usually tell you to wait 1-3 months. However, the only reason they tell you to wait is to make sure your emotionally ready and that they can date a new pregnancy. Please jump right into posting and if you have any questions you can always PM me as well

Hugs to you. I don't have a ton of concrete advice other than to share after my D&C with my second pregnancy, I bled off and on irregularly for 2 months, none of which was my cycle. My HCG levels took a long time to zero out....I had positive pregnancy tests for weeks after the procedure. I guess I would give it a few more weeks and see what happens. Once you have a normal length break and then a cycle, I would consider yourself back to normal.

Thanks!! I am doing surprisingly well emotionally. The first couple of weeks were tough, but now it seems like it was so long ago. I think it helps that I have two beautiful babies already that keep me very busy and my law practice I'm not too anxious to start again, but I imagine I will be in a few weeks. Right now I am just considering it all and trying to get my body back in shape (in and out)!
