I finally got the results of my hcg and progesterone check from last Thursday. Ugh. No one called Thursday or Friday. I called Friday and they were closed. My kids were insane on Monday so I didn't remember to call until like 4pm, and they said they couldn't find my results and would call me back. No one called me back. So I called again today. Stupid lab misspelled my name.
HCG was 230
Progesterone was 1.1
That's the first time they checked progesterone for me. Is that low or normal?
The last time I had hcg checked was one week prior, and it was 145. Ultrasound that same day showed an empty uterus and they diagnosed "complete abortion."
So, now I KNOW I'm not crazy and that there's a reason my HPTs are darker than they were before. But I am kinda upset. I want it over with, if there's no baby. It doesn't make sense to me. Why are my numbers going up if there's supposedly nothing in there, not even any tissue?
They want me to come in on Thursday to speak with a midwife. The nurse said it would be so they can "figure out how to get my hcg numbers to go down". What would that entail exactly?
I want to get the show on the road and really TTC. I mean, we're still dtd just to cover all bases in the meantime...but I know that its not supposed to be possible if your hcg is over 5. Boo.

That hcg is up a bit, but it typically doubles within 48 to 72 hours, so it only going to 230 from 145 a week later is cause for concern. Was the u/s to determine whether everything had cleared? I'm sorry, I can't remember.
I am so sorry you have to go through all of this, I don't know about what lowering your hcg would entail, hopefully someone else can help you with that.

The u/s was to determine if there was anything in there at all, and to perhaps explain the bleeding.

I wish I could provide answers, but I'm clueless. I just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you. Hope you can get better answers soon. Good luck on Thursday, and KUP.

With progesterone that low there is no hope for a successful pregnancy, however your HCG rising is a concern. I'm not sure what their plan is for getting your HCG down. ((HUGS))

If I am not mistaken, I do believe that HCG rising like that means that there still may be some tissue in there. Hopefully you can get some answers soon.

I agree, with a number still rising it does suggest that there is tissue remaining. They can do a couple of things to make sure everything clears. There are oral meds, some vaginal meds and also a D&C.
I'm sorry you are still having to deal with this!

The meds....are those the ones to induce cramps and bleeding?
The progesterone....do you think that means it was super low when I was pregnant, or is there no way to tell really this long after? Cuz I'm wondering if the low progesterone is what caused it in the first place....as I am still breastfeeding my 10.5 month old a lot, and I understand that affects progesterone levels...

Your progesterone level now is just due to your body realizing it is m/c. To test that level it would need to be done 7dpo and also once your pregnant.
As far as the meds I'm pretty sure it's the one that causes your uterus to contract. ((HUGS))

Would it be unreasonable for me to request another blood test and ultrasound before I consent to taking anything?
I really wanted to avoid any medical procedures to help things along, but it seems it may be necessary now. But I don't think I can do it unless I see again, and know how much stuff there is left in there to be rid of..and know 100%. I thought it was all gone...but dropping then rising hcg means something is there.

It is your body. I don't think it's unreasonable at all to ask for another blood test and ultrasound.

It's not unreasonable. It's standard at my doc to do an ultrasound the day you get the meds just to make absolutely sure.

Update: I went to my appointment today. The midwife said they are confused about my status as well. She said it could be a retained product of conception, or I could have gotten pregnant again. But she said its weird that my numbers dropped and then started rising again. So the plan was another hcg blood test today, and then an ultrasound on Monday afternoon. And she will call me tomorrow if hcg drops instead of rising. She said she wants to make sure that I'm not still pregnant or pregnant again before giving me medication, which would she said the plan would be if hcg drops and u/s doesn't show anything. Pretty sure it's just something left over and they'll end up giving me the meds eventually...which I am totally NOT looking forward to at all. This all is just dragging on way too much, but I definitely won't do anything til all bases are covered and we're 100% sure.

I'm in limbo too right now waiting for Monday's u/s to confirm my loss so they can either give me meds or go the D&C route (I haven't decided yet, but leaning toward a 2nd D&C).
