I know I have been away for a while.. I just needed some time away from the TTC front. I got a call from the doctor's office today with my D&C.. they tested "products of conception". I hate it being called that. Anyways... I just wanted to share what the results were and if anyone had any knowledge of this.
I was told that there were male chromosonal abnormalities. So pretty much it would have been a boy.. which totally freaks me out they could tell that (and makes it more real) and that it was doomed from the start.
She said there was something wrong with Chromosome 11 and it could have been from me or DH. So we are both going in the morning to get blood work done.
I asked her if it could be treated and she said it depends. We did IVF so there is a possibility it was an absolute WASTE of our time and money. Wouldn't you think they would check for anything possible BEFORE you get into something so major?
DH told me not to get upset yet but I can't help it. What if its over? I can't bear the thought of not ever being pregnant and a mom.

Thank you
They are going to check us both NOW but it seems more after the fact ya know? If one of us has a genetic issue then those 3 embryos we have frozen may have something wrong with them too. Makes me so frustrated and sad

Kelli, I am so sorry about all of this. You already know my issues with that clinic. Hopefully everything will be ok, and your snow babies can be used. I am here if you need me.

It would be great if they could test for things like this before hand, however, there are so many things related to that particular chromosome that it would be hard to pinpoint. It is also not something that would necessarily be detectable and could have been a "fluke". Our chromosomal testing after my D&E showed chromosomal abnormalities, she didn't go into specifics and was not concerned about it. Perhaps because they were able to see it as a "male 11 issue", they want to test to make sure that it isn't something that would happen again.
I am ss you have to go through all of that, but don't give up! I pray that they will figure out what is wrong and will be able to prevent it next time!

Lindsey - Thank you girl and I KNOW what you mean! I am just really thankful that we went with the other doc. He has been really great.. SO FAR.
humnck (sorry I don't know your name!) - I hope you are right and thank you for the info! I spent a little time on google looking up chromosome 11, but didn't find much. I just really hope this one was a fluke and we can move on from this. It just seems like there is always something else popping up.
We will have to wait TWO WEEKS for results. YUCK!

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I'm reading a book called "Coming To Term: uncovering the truth about miscarriages" right now, and just finished a section where they talked about chromosomal abnormalities. I'd highly recommend it to you if you are looking for some medical answers to things. One thing it said is that chromosomal abnormality miscarriages tend to more often be caused by improper splitting of the genetic material prior to conception or at conception, and less often because of an underlying physical problem. The book implies that early miscarriages with no chromosomal abnormalities found are of greater concern in terms of your ability to have a healthy baby carried to term down the road. Did you know research has shown over 70% of women who have miscarried three or more times will go on to have a healthy baby? THAT is a statistic worth hanging on to! Best wishes to you, and I am so, so sorry for your loss. I am believing that your miracle is coming, and that you WILL be a Mommy.

I'm sorry hun. I also had our first baby tested and we found out he was a boy. I'm so glad we found out though because I was then able to give him a name, Noah Allen and for me that helped bring some closure. As far as chromosome abnormalities it could have just been a fluke and might not happen again. I hope that with the testing you get more answers and a solution. ((HUGS))

I have been thinking about you Kelli! I am sorry you are going through this. They didn't test anything when I had my D&C this time around - they chalked it up to an abnormality too. Things is, DH and I did have genectic testing done and nothing raised a red flag with anyone, things seemed to have been fine and it seems the loss for the same reason happened on our end - chromosome abnormalities.
Should this happen to us again, I will ask that they test the embryo, if it's possible. They did mention they could look at DH and I individually to see if we are passing anything on, which maybe those tests are different than the genetic testing we already had - I don't know; Hopefully your testing will provide you with more answers, and the good kind!!!!!
Thinking of you - keep us posted, if you feel up to it ;o)

Don't count yourself out. It very well could just be a fluke. I also found out last year that the baby we lost was a boy with a chromosomal issue.

I'm sorry for your loss, I do hope that it was just a fluke. I never found out what happened when I had the d&c, wish I did.

I'm so sorry that you had to reopen ur wound Kel. It is never easy, but keep in mind that at least you got to know why your little baby boy passed away. I can only imagine that it can 'help' a bit. With ours we never got to know why I lost him/her coz what actually came out was too torn apart and minuscle that the only result they got was that it was really a baby and not a mole (as if after having seen the little heart beating away like crazy I would have ever believed that).
It sucks that they did not check before, IVF is a pricey business. The least they could do is test everything under the stars to try to minimize more heartache for the parents. Hopefully ur little snowbabies are fine, and that it was just a nature fluke
Hugs sweetie..... hopefully next time it will be a different story with a totally different ending xxx
