So I know can be OCD big time BUT I set up a meeting with another doctor to see if I feel better with her. Here is why and please tell me if I am acting rash about it, really you wont hurt my feelings!
1) When I was m/c the nurse wanted me to come in and see the doctor still. So I went in to talk with him since this was my second back to back m/c. I had my blood work done and it clearly showed my numbers had dropped. Well! The doctor comes into my appointment and preceeds to talk to me about how now we play the numbers game and I need to get my blood work done again cause I should be doubling! I had to correct him and tell him "Um I am in the process of m/c that was my second blood draw" I mean really!?! What if I was totally freaked and upset at the time! Imo he should have known before he came into the room what was going on with me. I shouldn't have had to tell him.
2) He doesn't want to continue to check my HCG lvls to make sure they drop all the way to 5 or below. I made the choice on my own. And with my history I have held onto a m/c for 2 months before I finally reached 0
3) He wants me to take extra folic acid. Which is fine and I did with my other pg's. But he wants me to take 2mg extra daily. Told me I can get it over the counter. NOT the 1mg tablets! I was taking 5 pills of folic acid until I got my RX for the 1mg. So he didn't know that. OR forgot. sheesh.
4) He thought I could get progesterone OVER THE COUNTER! Really?! When I asked the nurse why would he think that? She said "oh maybe he just forgot cause he hasn't prescribed it in a while." I don't buy that for a hot minute! Then when I picked it up from the pharmacy the pharmasist looked at my dose and she said "wow that's a large dose. Only take this when you absolutly have too." He has me on 200mg BID I have no clue what is a lot but it sounded like a lot AND we don't even know if that's the problem cause he didn't do blood work.
5) Now I am no doctor but he wants to check my thyroid lvls and everything after I get pg. Cool I understand that. BUT wouldn't you want to take my lvls before I am pg as well so you have a number to go off of? There is a range of "normal" so don't we need to know what range that I am in?
I do love though that they know how OCD and neurotic I am so they put all my blood work STAT even when I don't ask them too, LOLZ!
Anyway plz ladies am I being overly critical? I can be at times and need to be told I am. So any imput would be helpful. THANKS!

Honestly your doctor and your relationship is a huge deal. You have to feel comfortable with them and make sure they are a good fit for you. If they aren't then yes look for another doctor.

Yeah, I would say go with your gut and find a new doctor. He doesn't really sound like he knows what he was talking about. Or he should have apologized and explained that his head was in the clouds or something!

It can't hurt to go see another doctor to see if it is a better fit. You can always go back. He sounds a bit flighty but I know a lot of OBGYNs are because they are pulled in so many directions.

I learned a long time ago to follow your gut. If you aren't feeling comfrontable with your doctor I would switch. With my first loss I didn't like how my Ob was treating me so I went and saw another doctor. It didn't change anything but I felt better in my heart that I saw another doctor. When I had my third loss my Ob made me feel like it was my fault because of my age that I lost pumpkin. When I got pg with baby I told Dh that I wanted to start fresh. I left our local town and went to another area completely. I have to drive 2 hours to my high risk Ob and almost 2 hours to my regular Ob but I feel so much better. If your heart and gut is sawing to switch doctors I would switch.

Based on my own recent m/c experience, I say...GO WITH YOUR GUT. If something doesn't feel right, then it probably isn't. The doctors work for you, and you should get a second opinion if you do not feel he is up to snuff.

First off I would make sure you are very happy with your DR. I was so-so with mine after my miscarriage but saw him again when I was pregnant with my DD I was just so happy the pregnancy was progessing and I was going to have baby that I did what ever I was told.... giving him the GOD positon in my eyes. I ended up with a horrible delivery. Had I listen to my gut I could have found a new DR who could have treated me well all around. So my next 3 pregnancys & miscarriages I have seen a me DR even though I had 3 more losses he has been great and doing all testing and things I ask.
1.WOW not taking the time to read your chart first would really upset me too.
2.My DR never watched my levels fall for my miscarriages... but did for my ectopic.
3. I take 4500mg of Folic I have to take about half OTC the rest are in my prenatal and Folgard.
4.That is NUTS progestrone is a simple thing alot of pregnant woman are prescribed and he thought it was OTC??? RUN RUN far from this guy.
5. yes they should be checking everything now (somethings need to wait until your HCG is back to zero) I would ask for them to do clotting panels as well.
I hope you find a DR you are happy with.

@ Lindsy Thank you so much for such a detailed answer for me. I made an appointment with one doctor but she can't see me until the 21st and since we are not preventing anything this month I wanted to see a doctor before I might be already pg. SO I continued to look and I found another doctor that sounds like someone I would trust and like. His office actually seems like its handled like my first doctor whom I totally adored and trusted. My family didn't care for him (except DH) but that's because when I was having complications during delivery he wouldn't stop and tell them what was happening all he cared about was taking care of me and my baby. Which I was totally okay with. Time was of importance in my situation and he didn't feel like he had time to explain. So they took his "rude" behavior personal, lol. I have read reviews on this new doctor and it sounds like he is quick to the punch when there is complications. And that's very important for me. I go in on Thursday to give my medical history to the nurse and fill out paperwork (like a preinterview, lol) and then I get to make an appointment with the doctor. Its nice cause he SHOULD know then what he is dealing with when he meets me.

1) When I was m/c the nurse wanted me to come in and see the doctor still. So I went in to talk with him since this was my second back to back m/c. Imo he should have known before he came into the room what was going on with me. I shouldn't have had to tell him.
IMO, to not know your patient is miscarrying before you step into the room is completely unacceptable. It just shows an overall lack of care and personal connection to the patient. It would be one thing if the charts got switched or something like that, but to not even take the time to read up before stepping into the room is crazy.
2) He doesn't want to continue to check my HCG lvls to make sure they drop all the way to 5 or below. I made the choice on my own. And with my history I have held onto a m/c for 2 months before I finally reached 0
My first m/c was prior to my first appt with the OB, and so my care started with my family medicine dr. She had been doing beta's on me because she had some red flags go up and was afraid of an ectopic pregnancy. The day my levels dropped, she ordered an u/s, and told me she would keep doing beta's until my numbers got to 0. I did the u/s, but then chose to transfer my care to my OB. Since my last beta had only been 23, and I was having a natural m/c, and the u/s showed nothing of concern, she told me to call her in a week and describe how things were going over the phone. She didn't feel the need to do beta's, said she didn't need them to clinically treat me. But she did give me the option of continuing to have them done if I wanted, she just didn't feel they were necessary. I declined the extra testing. My second m/c, I was out of town when I started spotting, and then the actual m/c started over a holiday weekend. I was in constant communication with my OB in the week leading up to the m/c, and saw her the first day her office was open after the holiday weekend. By then, my miscarriage was almost complete, and my HPT's were coming back negative. So, she didn't feel the need to do beta's since a HPT is sensitive only to around 25. She followed up with me over the phone a week later to make sure everything was okay. In your situation, since you have a history of hanging onto m/c's, I would think it would make more sense to continue the blood draws, or to at least give you that option.
OR forgot. sheesh.
So, he's an OB... unless L&D is not his main focus (is the gyno more his thing?) he should DEFINITELY know more about the otc/presc. drugs that go along with pregnancy and TTC!
200mg is a lot if no blood work has been done, IMO. My OB prescribed 100mg oral pills with no lab testing. BUT... it was only after a face to face conversation where I laid out the details of my cycle since I had been using OPK's, and it was for the purpose of lengthening my luteal phase. The fact that he thought it was OTC is COMPLETELY unacceptable!
5) Now I am no doctor but he wants to check my thyroid lvls and everything after I get pg. Cool I understand that. BUT wouldn't you want to take my lvls before I am pg as well so you have a number to go off of? There is a range of "normal" so don't we need to know what range that I am in?
It is pretty normal to check thyroid levels during pregnancy since pregnancy itself can set them out of whack. However, if they are thinking the thyroid might be the cause of your m/c, then it definitely would be prudent to do testing now.
Now that I have an OB that I think the world of, it makes me realize that the care I had in the past was very sub-par. I would encourage you to go looking for someone that you feel completely comfortable with. You spend way too much time with your doctor during some of the most important moments of your life (hello, giving BIRTH!) to have it be someone you don't feel good about. I'd start looking for someone new. That's too many red flags.

I have an appointment tomorrow with another doctor's office. I wont be able to see him until next week. He seems to run his office more like my favorite doctor who retired. So I am very hopeful. They even do blood work before you see the doctor so he knows what he is dealing with. Some would find that overkill, me, I find that comforting.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me such details. Btwn everyone's advice I am going to look for another doctor. Like I mentioned I am hopeful of this new doctor. I was totally impressed by his staff on the phone. Okay so this might not seem like a big deal to most BUT when I called to make an appointment I always say Hi and then state my full name (first and last) then I quickly roll into why I am calling. Well this lady and I talked for about 20 minutes before I finally desided to make an appointment and she totally remembered my first AND last name! That told me she was listening to me from the moment she picked up the phone AND she has a great memory cause I can't remember names to save my life! LOLz. When I told her about the RX situtaion she burst out laughing, which was my thoughts as well, she couldn't believe it. Anyway I will keep you all posted as to how I like the office tomorrow and when I meet with the doctor. Thanks again ladies!
