I've been taking prometrium 100mg since our last m/c, since we are concerned my short luteal phase might have been a factor in our miscarriages. This past cycle, we did everything right, and I'm almost positive we're not pregnant. I was spotting lightly today, which is exactly what I do at this point in my cycle before AF comes in full force. DH is feeling really discouraged (as am I!), and wanted to know if there were certain things he could be doing to ensure that his sperm were doing the job. I encouraged him to consider cutting down on caffeine and alcohol (he doesn't overindulge in either by any means, but it was the first thing that came to my mind). Any other suggestions of natural dietary type things he could be doing to ensure strong swimmers?

Someone posted this about a year ago (I just copied and pasted it into a Word document on my computer), and I had DH on this regimen while we were TTC. It did help!

"we originally thought it was DH that was having fertility issues (b4 the SA). I did some research to see what we could do. I found a web site that spoke of certain vitamins that help with sperm count and function. DH took these for about 4 mths straight and let me tell you, WOW! his sex drive went through the roof due to the increase in testosterone. plus, when we had the SA done, his count was way above average, with well above average counts of perfectly formed, active motile sperm swimming upstream! so I recommend this to everyone! since it takes 2 mths for sperm to mature, I recommend taking for at least 2 mths, but increased libido should be noticed within the week LOL!

Zinc 65mg a day balanced with 2mg copper
** buy a bottle of Zinc at walmart (about $3) and a bottle of multi vits.
you can take one zinc pill (50mg) plus ur multi to get the total amt for the day

Selenium up to 400mcg
** you get about 105mcg from your multi, and 200mcg from the actual pill

L-Arginine need 4gr daily
** there is none in the multi, so he will need to take 8 of these pills a day bc each L-Arginine pill contains only 500mg!

Now, what do these pills do for DH??

ZINC----
has a DRAMATIC affect on sperm. Increases testosterone (needed to make sperm) and improves quality and quanity of the sperm

SELENIUM---
increases sperm concentration... A deficiency of dietary selenium leads to immotile, deformed
sperm and infertility ALSO PROMOTES HEALTHY PROSTATE!!!

L-Arginine ------ involoved in protein function and formation and is an essential amino acid (think of sperm heads, this vitamin helps to make the protein that is found in the heads of sperm!) also helps with motility AND RELAXES BLOOD VESSELS FOR A BETTER ERECTION!!!

L-Carnitine and Fertility
How The Amino Acid L-Carnitine Promotes Fertility

L-carnitine plays a powerful role in the process of sperm formation, sperm maturation, and the maintenance of sperm quality. L-carnitine is particularly vital in both the development and maturation of sperm in the testes, in the development of the sperm membrane, and in the metabolic processes as an energy source following ejaculation.

Healthy sperm are defined not just by count, but also by sperm motility and by healthy morphology (sperm shape and size and the integrity of sperm membrane). Sperm motility is determined by the percentage of sperm that are moving and qualified by the sperm’s capacity to "swim" in a sustained, forward direction. Healthy sperm motility is the critical attribute that allows sperm to propel themselves through the uterus to the fallopian tube, penetrate the surface of the ovum, and fertilize the egg.

L-carnitine plays a crucial role in sperm development and maturation. Equally important, once the sperm is ejaculated, the sperm requires metabolic efficiency in processing fat and sugars into energy - which translates into sperm motility. Sperm motility refers to the sperm's vital ability to move or "swim", and efficient sperm metabolism (the processing of fuel to energy) is central to male fertility and fertilization. Sperm must exhibit the ability to metabolize energy effectively in order to swim from the vagina through the cervix, into the uterus and fallopian tube and penetrate the egg. L-carnitine plays a vital role in maintaining the sperm membrane and the metabolic processing of endogenous fuel into energy, expressed as sperm motility
