I had an appointment with a midwife today and she read my results for the bloodwork... My beta level was at 76 and my progesterone was 20. She said progesterone level was fine but the beta level is too low from the time frame of my last cycle. She said at 4.5 weeks the numbers should have been much higher... So she wants me to go in on friday and then on tues and then make an appointment with my dr... Please oh please let these numbers double....
She told me that even though I had the positive on the Pee stick it really falls on the bloodwork for confirmation... I was looking to get out of her a little ounce of hope but got nothing in return but to walk on eggshells out of the office... I asked if there was anything I could do to ensure the bean to stick and she said no... I just have to wait for the bloodwork results.... How sad or happy or sad or happy... I don't know what to think....

I think that number sounds reasonable for 4.5 weeks. Everyone is different and the numbers really vary. As long as they continue to rise, you should be ok. Good luck and I hope you have great numbers next time!

Those numbers sound fine for that time range. They can vary a lot. My levels at 4 weeks 1 day was 40, and I was told not to expect a viable pregnancy. I refused my second test, and I am 11 weeks pregnant now. Don't let the numbers get to you.

I think they're fine. I just googled this.
Guideline to hCG levels during pregnancy:
hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :
3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml
Postmenopausal females: <9.5 mIU/ml
* These numbers are just a GUIDELINE-- every woman’s level of hCG can rise differently. It is not necessarily the level that matters but rather the change in the level.

Dr's DO NOT know everything! Why would they make you feel so bad about your numbers? It is all about if they double....and even that isn't a given. Just try and think positively and ignore the doubt! And by the way...it is positively confirmed. 76 is a positive number! Anything above 5 actually! So, it is weird that the doctor said that. shame on her for making you feel bad Sending sticky vibes your way!!!!!!

I agree, that number sounds fine for where you're at. Honestly it's kind of ****** for your midwife to say that. You are pregnant, and this WILL be your sticky bean. Try to feel better, and ignore that she was rude.

Thanks ladies... My doctor was filled up for today and the midwife was available to see me when I made the appointment. I figured that the midwife would be just the same but I guess not... I thought the same thing.. 76 seems good but she made me feel like it's a bad thing... Makes me so nervous...

I know it's easier said then done, but try not to worry. That number sounds just fine and all that matters is that they go up!! Keeping you in my thoughts.

I really hate when doctors worry someone when it comes to the first draw. It matters how they double. Your numbers sound fine.

Ditto! Plus a few more ****** ***** ***** added in. That is seriously messed up.
Your beta is good, it is all depending on the doubling time. How dare she say that to you - especially when you have had a loss in the past and am overly stressed as it is.
Phewey - I would look for a new doctor asap!!

I wish doctors would think before they say things. Your numbers sound fine. As long as they are doubling that is all that matters. Your first number really doesn't mean much... it's more the second number.

And ditto to sandiegomom, anything above 5 is positive, so I don't get what she meant by that! Keeping you in my thoughts!!

Sending lot's of prayers for you and for peace that everything is going to be just fine and this is your long awaited baby.
I personally would say something to the doctor about the midwife when you see him/her. And for me if the reaction was a "blow off" to you then I would take my buisness somewhere else. That's a horrible thing to say to someone. Loss in the past or not. It just adds stress to you and baby both of whom don't need it.

Funny thing about switching doctors... This is my new OB/GYN..... My third visit and had to see the midwife because he was busy.... I definitely make an appointment with the doctor next time and not the midwife and tell him what she told me..... finding a doctor that really cares about your interest is so hard.....

Don't let that lady tell you your numbers are too low! How dare she tell you something like that. I know when I was worried my numbers were low, a sweet lady told me hers at 16 DPO (I think..if not very close to that) was 12.4 and they told her the baby wasn't viable. And yet, her baby was born perfectly healthy So they don't know everything.

I agree with what others have already said. There is a huge range of numbers that are considered "normal." The first number doesn't really tell you much, it's the second one that will be more telling. Thinking of you! Keep us posted.

Wow. That is weird. Those numbers are totally fine. Especially when you haven't had a 2nd blood draw to compare to, where does she get off making comments like that? I'd definitely refrain from seeing her again in the future.

I can't believe they told you that number was too low for a first beta draw! My first beta was 25 at 3.5 wks, and they asked me to come back for two more draws to make sure it was doubling, but NEVER told me based on that first beta that the pregnancy probably wasn't viable. That is crazy. And you ARE pregnant. That is stupid she is saying they have to wait on bloodwork. Pregnant, and hopefully carrying to term. Geez, your midwife PISSED ME OFF!!!
