Sorry i vanished - between Savannah's 2nd birthday on Thanksgiving, hosting all of the family and then as soon as everyone left we had a flood in our house (hot water heater)...needless to say it's been craaaazy town around here.

I did go in for the RPL testing on Monday - turned out to be two different blood draws b/c OB's office forgot to mention there was a big test (karyotyping) they couldn't do the in the office. SIGH. And now i'm just hoping insurance does cover everything b/c the lab informs me that the karyotyping test alone if insurance won't pay will cost $1,200 (!) and I have no clue how much the other 8 tests run.

Anyway, I got a vm from OB's office that the first 3 of the tests came back ok, but of course didn't tell me which ones so I'll have to get the details next week. A couple of the tests they mentioned would take a couple weeks to get results and i think they said the karyotyping might take a month? I'm hoping they'll come in faster since i'm still wanting to TTC on Jan 1 but not sure now if I'll have all the test results back in.

For anyone who has already done RPL testing...OB's office mentioned there was one test they'd do a 2nd blood draw to measure 6 weeks after the first test results come back, any idea which test that is?

I wrote a reply before, I wonder why it never showed up ?!

Anyway, glad you are back! I hope you don't have to pay for that expensive test, that would suck. KUP on the results and I hope you get them back soon so you can TTC in Jan like you want!

Glad to see you back. I hope all goes well with the tests and insurance covering them. Insurance can be rough sometimes . I hope you get all the answers you are looking for to move forward with TTC.

Hope insurance covers everything. I had a mini RPL work up but didn't do the full one. Only thing bad that came back was the C reactive protein, which was elevated but since I was still getting over a stomach bug at the time I discounted that one. Sorry no help on the others. Fingers crossed for good results!

thanks everyone...I haven't had time to call Dr office back yet to find out which of the 3 tests came back ok, but they should call me soon again anyway as I think they were expecting more test results back in this week.

I've heard nothing from insurance company on whether they'll cover or not...and i'm thinking smartest thing to do is nothing & hope they'll cover (and fight it if they don't)...i'm worried if I call asking it'll make them look more closely at it

I could have swore I replied to this ... hmmm! Anywho! As far as the testing goes for RPL I got a few of my results back right away but some of the results took around 6ish weeks to get back. Oh and I had to fight tooth and nail to get mine covered under insurance. Originally they told me it would be covered. So I had the blood work done. Then I get a bill and call the insurance company. They said that it was elective and not medically necessary. So then I go back to the doctors office and fought with them on it. After about 2ish months I finally got it covered 100%. The one lady from my doctors office said if you have in your medical files 3 documented losses they can't deny it. Hope that helps you hun.

Thanks for the feedback Katie...that's actually what makes me nervous is that while i generally have great insurance (honestly they've covered a lot of "optional" stuff on genetic counseling with Savannah's pregnancy) i only have 2 documented losses and a successful pregnancy in between. And reading online (i know, i know) i find that even doing the karyotyping test (which is the hugely expensive one) is a little controversial with a lot of doctors not doing it at all b/c there's little that can be done even if they discover a chromosomal issue with either of the parents (essentially either you stop TTC, you keep trying & hope for random success, or you can try IVF w/testing but apparently success rate via IVF w/testing isn't any better than just TTC and hoping for random success). So now i'm worried insurance won't cover, but i guess we'll just cross our fingers & hope they will...

It really should be covered. If they start telling you it isn't that's when you contact your doctors office. Sometimes if they code it differently it gets covered. If they change the code they do need to resubmit the claim to the insurance company.
