Just got call from OB's office, all results are now in with exception of the karyotyping...even thought they didn't expect these RPL tests to turn anything up (primarily b/c of successful preg w/Savannah), it turns out I have 2 abnormal results:

Positive for Prothrombin 20210 Mutation (Factor II, hetero) and a mildly abnormal result for Anticardiolipin Antibodies. These both increase the chance for blood clots, miscarriage & stillbirth.

Turns out the Anticardiolipin Antibodies test was the one they were going to repeat in 6 weeks, but now with the Factor II mutation result they're not going to both to retest AA but rather send me directly for consult with an RE to discuss treatment plan for next pregnancy...basically whether i'll take baby aspirin or need Lovenox throughout pregnancy. I'm going to call the RE for an appt, but their website warns it normally takes 6 weeks or more for initial consult so i'm guessing TTC around new years is now not a possibility

I really don't know how to feel...this is not to say that either of my losses were b/c of the clotting disorders, but they might have and that sadly is harder to absorb than when you think (as I have) that they were caused by chromosomal issues or whatnot that were unavoidable. It tears at me to think that perhaps if I had just taken 1 stupid baby aspirin a day that everything would have been fine.

Anyway, I'll update everyone when I get RE appt scheduled...if anyone here has been through similar appt on blood clotting disorders and/or has tested positive for either of these I'd love to pick your brain on what you were told.

I'm so sorry to hear this! And DO NOT blame yourself, you had no idea this was an issue so it is absolutely not your fault how were you supposed to know that a baby aspirin may or may not have helped. Try to think of it this way, at least now you do have some idea of what is happening and you can have a little more control over the situation next time instead of just wondering what went wrong and praying it doesn't happen again. I know that doesn't help much and it totally stinks that you have to wait a bit longer. Take care of yourself and keep us posted on how things turn out at the RE.

thanks everyone, i really do appreciate the support

so some good news in all of this - finally got through to the RE (omg they're busy, i couldn't even get through the first 2 times and when i did they put me on hold for 10 mins)...and they just had a cancellation so my appt is on 12/19

I don't want to get my hopes up yet...he may want more tests or may tell me to wait...but at least it's still possible i'll get the all clear to TTC over New Years!

You cannot beat yourself up about your losses. You did everything you could do at the time, with the knowledge and experience you had. I know it's easy for us to tell you that and that you logically know that, but I also know that emotions get the better of us TTC gals sometimes.

While this discovery stinks, it's also such a positive thing to know. You'll be able to work out an action plan with your RE before you get pregnant again. Knowledge really is power, especially in TTC. So I just know this is going to work out well for you.

Im so happy that I scrolled down to see your update that they had a cancellation and got you in on the 19th! I really hope the RE gives you the go ahead for New Year's. And like the others said, please don't blame yourself. I know its easier to say that to someone than to think it yourself but there was just know way you could have known that. At least you do NOW and you have the information to hopefully have a sticky bean the next time you TTC. Good luck and make sure you KUP right after your appt on the 19th!

I'm glad you're at least getting to move forward Lara... I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you'll be able to ttc soon!

As everyone else has said, please don't beat yourself up or blame yourself for your losses. I understand the impulse completely... I keep wondering if it's something as simple as progesterone that would have me 34 weeks pg right now, then how could I miss that? But we all only know what we know. And you have your Savannah and so why wouldn't you believe that everything would be fine without intervention? Please be kind to yourself... You're doing everything right and you're a great mama!!

I'm so glad they had a cancellation I know several girls who had clotting factor issues and they were all fairly easily treated with medication as I recall. One of my friends who had two clotting factor issues is 6 months pregnant right now after having two losses. Good luck sweetie!

thanks everyone - you ladies are the very best!

now i feel like Savannah is an even bigger miracle than i ever realized...she may well have beaten all odds since we had no clue i had clotting disorder that could easily have harmed her growth during pregnancy.

And i'm trying to also focus that this info is actually really great health info for me to have anyway...i'll likely never be put on BC pills ever again, and this is knowledge useful if i ever have surgery again, even just knowing you're at higher risk for clots gives you different protocol for making sure you get up and walk periodically when sitting at work, or when i fly, etc. After i meet with RE i plan to also make appt with my PCP to figure out if I should be doing anything different generally and make sure none of my regular meds should change based on this new info.

YAY for getting into the RE!! So sorry you got abnormal results, and that you are having a hard time with it. You can't beat yourself up over your losses. The baby that is meant to be will join your family at the exact right time. I just know it. Good luck with your upcoming appt!

I also have clotting mutations. My OB only treats it with a baby aspirin BUT most RE's treat them with Levenox. Knowledge is power and although this is another bump in the road it's also one step closer to you having your rainbow baby.

I don't know much about the clotting factors you came back positive for. I definitely know what you mean about it tearing at you. When I finally found someone who would run the RPL panel and I came back positive for MTHFR I was angry. Then I went to my RE and he told me that he thought I had an ovulation problem all along and that along with the MTHFR was more than likely the cause of my 3 losses. I wanted to rip my old OB's head off. A baby aspirin and ovulation meds could have prevented all that heartache?!? Ugh! I agree with Katie though, knowledge is power. I hope they are able to come up with a plan for you, and you're holding your rainbow baby soon!
