I had my 1 month follow up today after losing Kayden. The autopsy report showed he was perfect, there was nothing wrong with him at all. The tissue pathology report showed there was an infecton of the placenta and cord. My baby died from an infection. The doctor said there was a small rupture of the amniotic membranes, too small for me to notice but it let in bacteria. It was such a fluke thing.. But the doc is confident for the next pregnancy to go well.

Now for the good news, he gave us the green light to start trying again. I didn't even ask...he just blurted it out. I started AF two days ago!

As painful as the answer was, it must be empowering to know that this loss was caused by a fluke medical condition, rather than an ongoing medical problem. I'm so sorry you lost Kayden, but am looking forward to hearing happy news from you sometime soon!

I'm so sorry. That's hard news to hear, but at least now you know and can rest easy that it wasn't a condition that is going to carry through to other pregnancies. I hope you get that BFP soon!

sorry to hear about your loss. My sister in law just went through the same thing. She was due in October 2011 and lost her baby around 17 wks. She too was told afterwards that she had an infection in her placenta and it caused it to separate from the wall. She had no symptoms of an infection to make her concerned for that. Her doctor also told her that it was fluke thing and that she should never expect it to happen again. It took her a few months for her body to get back on track but she is pregnant again and is due at the beginning of June. Everything is going well this time and they don't expect any problems. Good luck to you.

I am so sorry. As hard as it is to hear, it helps to know an reason why. It is good news that it was a fluke and is unlikely to happen again.

As for the green light on TTC, yay! Have fun baby making

Thank you so much everyone. It is hard to know...and was hard to hear...but it is empowering and offered closure I never thought I'd have. And at the same time it gives me more confidence to move forward in trying again...not a lot more confidence...but some.

Thank you so much for sharing this, Lindsay. It helps so much to know I'm not alone. I'll say prayers for your SIL and her little one.

Stacie, again, I am ss for your loss of Kayden. I am glad you got answers, I know how the "closure" feels, when I lost our baby at 12 weeks, I had a D&E and they did chromosome testing and found it to be a fluke genetic mutation, also not something they consider recurring. That "not recurring" info was much more assuring than anything else they told me. I will be thinking of you and praying that you get your rainbow baby soon!

Go have fun

I agree with the other ladies that as hard as the loss still is, hopefully there will be some comfort in the fact that you have no reason to think that you'll have another one. I hope and pray that your body gets back on track quickly and you get your sticky rainbow BFP!!

HUGS that is such tough news to hear...its reassuring to know it's not a recurring sort of problem that would cause you worry with future pregnancies but such a fluke thing breaks my heart for you that you'd lose an otherwise healthy baby to what's essentially just horrible luck.

I am so sorry, and I hope that at least having answers gives you some peace and removes some worry for you as you start to TTC again.
