I'm on the third day of my first period after I started using progesterone suppositories. We were hoping for a BFP but are fine with it not happening this time, and the progesterone seems to have lengthened out my LP to 12 days. All good. From here on it's definitely TMI...

So this period had been very light, but the cramping has been pretty severe. I'm not a stranger to it, I've always had bad periods, clotting, cramping for the entire time I'm bleeding, vomiting and passing out. It's gotten much better as I've gotten older, but I still have the odd month that's really unpleasant. So nothing so unusual about this one. Until I was standing at work today and I feel a gush! I finished what I was doing as fast as I could and got to the restroom. I had passed a REALLY big clot... like twice the size of a quarter! The blood was coming fast and in the next half hour I passed two more huge clots. Then the bleeding died down again. I have never passed large clots, except for with my miscarriages, so I was just slightly freaked out...

Now I'm wondering if it was because of the progesterone... it's been way too long for it to be retained tissue from my last mc. But maybe the hormone caused the endometrial lining to grow thicker or to be shed differently? I don't know... I sent an email to my OB so we'll see what she says about it. Anybody ever have anything like this happen??

Sometimes your dr. will tell you to take baby aspirin with the progesterone regimin....as progesterone is a blood thickening agent. Thats why women who take progesterone during their cycle to become pg, really need to do it under the care of their dr's......I would definitely let them know about this, especially if you are actively TTC.....getting pregnant without the aspirin in place and having these clotting issues can lead to a catastrophic outcome. Best of luck to you!!

Thanks! I hadn't even thought of that... I do take a baby aspirin with my vitamins every day... and I'm still waiting to hear back from my doc. I've been tested for all the clotting disorders they could think of and they were all negative, so hopefully this was just my body adjusting to the progesterone... We'll see I guess...

yes, progesterone makes endometrial lining thicker. That's why a lot of women that take clomid are also on prometrium since clomid can make the lining thin.

Yep, my clots are much bigger when on prometrium. It freaked me out when I first started taking it, and was the reason why my OB ordered a transvaginal u/s a few cycles after my last m/c. She wanted to make sure it wasn't a fibroid. I checked out fine, and she told me she wasn't worried about the extra bleeding, that she thought it was related to the hormones. She told me to do everything in my power to get pregnant again, since that would solve the problem (no more AF, no more clots). Definitely mention it to your OB though so that they can continue to monitor it.

Thanks for posting this. I am on my first round of progesterone suppositories, and as much as I was hoping it wasn't, I think AF is on it's way. I have a tendency to pass clots anyway, and since my m/c in August, they've been a little more frequent. I'm thankful for the heads-up as to what I MIGHT expect when AF does arrive.
