First, I wanted to wish everyone a HAPPY EASTER!!
Second, please help!! I have a UTI, I haven't been to the Dr's yet b/c it just started today, but it is def a UTI, yuck!! I seem to get them often. My question to anyone who has had one, Do you use antibiotics or something OTC? The last time I had one, my dr, put me on Nitrofurantoin, I used this the same month I had my m/c. I am not sure if there is any relation b/c I told him that we were TTC when he prescribed it. I am just not sure if I should take a prescription or not this time around. I have the pills still since I didn't finish them, so I was just going to take a few. I researched this drug a little on the internet and there are mixed reviews by consumers about it. Any natural remedies anyone could suggest? I am drinking tons of cranberry juice, but other then that I don't know what else to do. Has anyone else ran into re-occurent UTI's? This is horrible, I feel like this happens every month while actively TTC. I don't know how much more of this I can endure!!!
Thanks

I'm a huge fan of natural remedies, but haven't had a UTI for awhile . . . keep on with the cranberry juice and lots of water, the idea is to constantly flush out the bacteria with the water (although I know it hurts to pee but do it as often as you can to flush it out) and the cranberry I *think* helps to keep the bacteria from adhering to the urinary tract wall??? or something like that anyway. Also recommended is a demulcent, which helps protect/calm the aggravated tissue. Several books on natural remedies that I own say a tea made of corn silk will help with a UTI, calming down the aggravated tissue, thereby reducing the pain, but I haven't tried that one. Hopefully I'll never get another UTI so I won't have to Bleh, last time I had a UTI it lasted for 4 months since the drs kept giving me an antibiotic that did NOT work.
Good luck and lots of healing dust your way!!!

Thank you very much for the suggestion!! Is demulcent a pill? Where can I find it?
Yup, I will keep drinking the cranberry juice and water, I hope that this flushes it out on it's own, I try to stay away from meds as much as I can, I am not comfortable with all the warnings on everything nowadays, although in some cases I know it's necessary, but I don't like being placed on a antibiotic for every little thing, KWIM?
Thanks again!!

Demulcent is a property of something. Many things can be a demulcent. It just means something that will calm/protect. Unfortuantely you can't just go to a store and buy something that just says demulcent
Okay, just pulled a couple books . . .
if you know where to find fresh bearberry, couchgrass, and yarrow . . . this book, Holistic Herbal by David Hoffmann recommends a tea (made of equal parts of the herbs) of that drunk hot every 2 hours for as long as the pain is acute, then 3x per day for awhile to cure it, and says '"a demulcent like corn silk may be added." I know what yarrow is and like that one but the other 2 I'm not familiar with.
You can get corn on the cob (silk included) at the grocery store, but I don't know about this time of year. Only thing is that unless you know/trust how it was grown, it could contain pesticide residues.
This one is the Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine by Michael Murray & Joseph Pizzorno, N. D. and they recommend at least 2 qts of water per day including at least 16 oz of UNsweetened cranberry juice (Yuck!!! but make sure you are drinking that and NOT the sweetened or other-juices-added kind, as excessive sugar consumption can be an underlying cause) or 8 oz of blueberry juice per day. They also recommend Vitamin C, 500 mg every 2 hours.
They also recommend the herbs Uva Ursi and Goldenseal, but I don't know much about those two.
Hope that helps!

I think you should get something from your doctor for a UTI. You definitely don't want it to get worse. Also, be sure to urinate 15 min or so after sex because ejaculate can get into your urethra (when your TTC) and be the cause of a UTI. I used to get them all the time before I started making sure I urinated after sex.
