But why FOUR+ hours before the surgery?
This is just SO different than my D&E. With that one, I was supposed to be there like 1-2 hours before surgery and was pretty much in and out.

Because after the lab work is done at the office, it takes more time to prep you for surgery. The anesthesiologist has to get a history and physical, they have to start your IV, give you pre-op meds, etc. Plus, your OB doctor may get done with the surgeries before you a little sooner than scheduled and they want you to be ready when the doctor is ready. Usually when a doctor puts you on his surgery schedule he has a whole list of patients to do surgery on that day. They just want to make sure you have enough time to get ready. It's nothing unusual.
