just a little background info, my dad died from cancer in 2001, and lucky for him my mom (and hospice) were able to take care of him so he could die in peace at home. A couple years later she got married again and sold the house, which us kids had a really hard time with as we all grew up there and dad put alot of love and work into the place, so there's lots of wonderful memories there.
Well, my mom kept in contact with the people that bought the house, and now it is up for sale again since they want to build a new house on their family's land, so they have invited us all to come over and see the house and all the updates they've made (Dad completely remodeled the house except for the bedrooms that didn't get started before he passed). Mom is really torn right now, she is retiring in 5 yrs and would LOVE to move back there but not sure if that's the right decision or not.
I think its going to be weird seeing someone elses stuff in our house, like to remember it as it was and not sure i really want to go but am going anyway to support mom.
Thanks for letting me ramble.

Did you end up going? If so, how did it go?

Lots of hugs!
Bobbie

It actually went better than I thought! The couple who bought it (and are now selling) are such a cute young couple, I wish they were staying there!
They hadn't changed much on the main floor, just painted the living room a slightly different color, and I have to say I like their decorating style for the rooms they did change. I was really happy to see they left one thing the same, we had a broom cupboard and on the inside of the door Mom would measure our heights so I took pictures of that! A friend of theirs had added his height to it as well!
And it was fun to tell them the history of the place about all the oddities, like why the ceiling had been fixed in one spot and where one hole in the basement wall came from So all in all it was a good day. I just hope the next buyers appreciate the place. I wish I could buy it *sigh* but it's WAY out of my price range for the time being.

Ohh I am so glad you decided to go and things went well. I am sure your Dad was smiling down on you all.

You should post the pic of the door! I would love to see it.....

here is the door pic , the one with the flash on turned out better, but the light kind of hides some of the names/heights in the middle. in case you are wondering most of my recorded heights are on the right hand side, I'm only 5'2".

That is so cool Have you thought about asking them if you could have the door if you buy them a new one?

My brother planned at one time to make a new door (Dad built the cabinet) and to keep the door for himself, and I asked him about it when I took the pictures, and he wanted it to stay with the house now. I don't know how to make a door (yet, anyway )
Actually I do have something special in my house from my dad, he helped me do the trim for my front door during his illness, and the router bit fell off and left a huge gouge in the wood, he felt bad and offered to get me a new piece, but I told him to leave it bc it would always remind me of him. That will def. come with me when we move (sometime somewhere in the future!). I think I'll make a picture frame out of it, I have a sweet pic of him and me from when I was really little.
