That is a good article, bc they tell you, which the dr's may not, that the test is not foolproof!
Here's what I learned from my HSG:
If you normally have cramping during your AF, you will most likely have cramping as bad or worse. If your AF's are normally pain-free, the test should not hurt too much. (My AF's are normally not too bad cramp-wise, but the last 2 have been very painful, and this test HURT like %&$^&@#*$&!!!!!!!!!!! ) Also it will hurt more if the tubes are either blocked, or have spasmed shut, as the dye then has nowhere to go and the pressure builds in the uterus causing cramping.
And of course, I learned that the cramping can cause the tubes to spasm shut and move around so they can't even see where the tubes end if they fold back over and lay on top of the uterus so sometimes they can't even see where the blockage is.
AND, thanks also listed in that article that the dr's do not tell you, if the cilia inthe tubes are paralyzed, the test will not show that at all.
So for me, I had the 1st HSG during surgery that showed my right tube was "perfect" and that was certainly not the case (being as both pg's implanted near the fimbral end, that is a pretty good indication, although not a diagnosis, that my cilia were paralyzed), and then having the 2nd HSG while conscious only to cramp so bad that the test was useless.
Honestly, I wish they had bypassed the HSG altogether and just gone straight for the surgery that I have scheduled for Sept 17th.
