Dwayne's BOSS!!!!

So you remember the week I stayed at Dwayne's house??? And we went to Wonderland, and a Halloween Party? WELL!! His boss didn't appreciate him taking 5 days off from work, without a doctor's note. So Dwayne was called into the office yesterday and was spoken to about it, asking him why he took the days off. He said "well, I've got vacation time put in, don't I?" and his boss proceeded to tell him "yes you do, but you need to give us notice, you can't just take those days whenever you want!" I can see where his boss is coming from...but what he did to Dwayne today was totally uncalled for!!!! I get a call from Dwayne as I'm doing something in the kitchen for my mom to help with dinner, anyway, he tells me that HE GOT FIRED!!!!! He said his boss didn't like the fact that he took 5 days off for vacation without notice, and since he didn't have a doctor's note, they let him go!!! He's going to call the labour board to see if what he did is even legal! I hope it's not so he can sue them!!!

So now Dwayne still has 1 job during the week, and his weekend night job. But still, he got fired without being given a warning or anything...so...needlesstosay we're PO'd!!!!

UPDATE:

Dwayne called the HR lady this morning and she told him that his supervisor/boss couldn't fire him just because he didn't have a doctor's note OR give notice as to him taking his vacation. The only thing he CAN do is give a verbal warning or a written warning. So, she hung up, and called his boss, asking what he preferred to do. She called back a short while later and told Dwayne that he has a verbal warning, and the next time he does it, he will be getting a written. She's also switched his shifts, because Dwayne requested it, so now he's working with them from 3:30pm until 11pm...Monday thru Friday. The only crappy thing is, it conflicts with his other day job schedule, so he might have to give up that job so he can work this one. The GOOD thing about this shift is, after 8pm he's receiving overtime, which is pay and a half. AND it also takes away an hour or two from his Friday nighttime job. So...I dunno what's going to happen there!

I'm just glad he has the job back, this is the better paying job out of the two day jobs he has. I hope he just stays with this one!!

That sucks Jess!! Why do boss' have to be so difficult sometimes. If they had a problem with him taking that vacation time then they should at least give him a warning before just firing him. I would see about collecting unemployment from them if he can, but with his other jobs I don't know if he can.

That sucks!!! Some bosses are really crappy, and believe me I've had my share!
I don't know what his company policy is/was, but for some companies you have to put in a request for vacation time, and someone appropriate has to approve it before you can take off. If Dwayne put in his request and it was approved, I wouldn't think that it is legal to fire him for it!!!
Something like that happened to my aunt - her boss was gone on the day she put in her request so the manager in charge of her dept that day approved it and she almost got fired for taking her approved vacation!
FYI, they are never supposed to ask WHY you want vacation time, one boss I had got in trouble for that. he also always asked WHY you wanted to go home sick, which they are not allowed to do either.

WOW, that's crazy!! I hope that he will be able to get some sort of compensation, esp. if he didn't do anything wrong according to policy.

some boss's are just plain rude! Thats what happened to my hubby after we lost William, i called him at work to tell him that i lost his son and i was holding him in my arms. he slammed the phone down and raced home. Well he took a few days off, to plan a funeral and he was fired when he went back in 2 days! we were fuming. but i didnt like that job. it was to hard on the family. he worked to many hours.

But Jess keep your cool, ppl like that just want self pity. or to be mean to someone to make them feel better about themselves. you guys are better then that. just remember that. I hope it gets better for you guys!!

I am glad to hear that he got his job back. Good thing he called HR. I just hope that it doesn't cause a power stuggle with his boss. It sounds like the new schedule will work better. Keep us posted
