I've been waiting for my hormone levels to return to the "negative" value so we can stop having to be "careful". As a reminder, I m/ced on 11/2 and had blood work drawn on 11/9 and the quantity was 56. I went and had blood drawn again yesterday and just got the results back today. The quantity was 3. I was all excited. I had heard that less than 5 indicates a negative reading, so I thought I was in the clear. But no, my doctor wants me to come back in 2 more weeks to get the number to 2 or lower. It is "technically" negative, but he still wants it repeated. (Is he just trying to make more money??) I was only able to talk to the nurse, and it doesn't make any sense to me. I feel like my first AF is right around the corner and I don't want to wait another 2 weeks. I think my Dr is being extra cautious. Do you think I REALLY have to go back again?

When I had my second m/c my last numbers were 7 and the doctor wanted me to come back but I chose not to go back for another poke. I would say its up to you what you want to do but 3 is really low.

Aww hun that stinks! I'm sorry you're not back down to zero yet. I'm sure you're doc is just being extra cautious. I'm sure you don't HAVE to go back again, but better safe than sorry. It's up to you. I hope everything works out for you!

Going to get your blood drawn again is completely up to you. When I had my m/c, I had my blood drawn twice. Once to confirm the pregnancy, and another time to see if the levels were doubling. They weren't, so my doctor told me I was miscarrying. I didn't go back for another blood test.

I think with your levels at 3, you're fine to try again. If you want, take a pregnancy test just to see if it's negative. If it is, tell your doc you don't want more blood drawn. Especially since you can't go back in for another 2 weeks. That's a huge inconvenience to you and can easily be resolved by taking a HPT.

I had a similiar thing happened. My final blood draw came back as 4 or 5 (can't remember exactly) and the doc was fine with that. Said that it was negative and no reason to come back in. I would say if you get AF that'll answer the question of whether you really need to go back in. If you have ins I guess it can't hurt. (((HUGS)))

yeh its up to you.. i didnt even go to my follow up appointment after my d&c... i actually forgot about it, and then when i called to reschedule they asked if i was doing good and that since i was was fine i could just skip it... i wouldnt worry about it to much.... take a HPT... i took one and then turned around and saw that there was blood in the toilet and id just started my period... haha.. waisted test!

I hate needles so for me I would skip it. 3 is really low and I bet you get AF before the two weeks are up I don't think it's about the money I think they are just being cautious.

It's up to you if you feel like going back or not.

I went to the Dr. a million times after my miscarriage on 10/17. 3 times I went, the pregnancy test came back positive, another time I went back and she had pregnancy test done and a quantitative and said the number was really low, so it's fine. And I got my period 2 weeks later. Just tell your doctor you have cramps so you don't need to go! Haha, I don't know what to tell you, it just seems like 3 is low enough to leave you alone! My doc had me go in so many times to make sure they "got everything out" at the D&C, maybe that's what he's worried about? But 3 is still too low in my opinion.
