Hi everyone,
It saddens me to say that I'm joining this board after having a chemical pg. I found out I was pg on Sunday, 11/18. I started bleeding on Friday, 11/23. I had bloodwork done on Friday and Sunday - HCG Friday 7.6, Sunday 3.2. I bled for 2 days, then spotted for 3 days. I was 17 dpo when the bleeding-m/c happened.
I spoke with the nurse at my doctor's office and she said they recommend waiting 3 cycles to ttc. I told her that it seemed like a lot, and that I didn't want to jeopordize my health or the health of an future/potential babies, but why so long? She first said it was to help with dating a pregnancy, to which I told her I was charting and would know exactly when it happened again. She then said it was for hormones to get back to normal.
Here are my questions:
1. How long should I wait. We really want to start right back up again, but I will feel horribly guilty if I have another m/c.
2. Should I be worried about low progesterone? My luteal phase before this pg was 10 days. I started taking vitamins b6 and b12 to help lengthen it. The first month I started the vitamins, the m/c happens. Is that a coincidence? Should I stop taking the b vitamins?
3. How would I know if the m/c happened because of low progesterone? I have a daughter who is almost tow. Is it possible to start having this problem after one successful pg?
That's all I can think of right now. Thanks for any advice/guidance you can provide!
~Rachael

Hi, i am so sorry for your loss.. I have a daughter who is 20 months old! and i just had a m/c last month.
as for your Qs i cant answer all of them
but as to trying again, my Dr.s said i could start trying again after one menstrual period.... and i have a natural m/c AND a d&c at 11 weeks pg... So i dont think it should be a problem for you guys to start right away...or after a period
i have no idea about the other Qs you had... sorry i cant be of more help for that...

Hi Rachael,
I am sorry to hear you lost your little one. I am glad you found thought board though. I really don't know much about progesterone so can't answer those questions. In regard to how soon you should start trying again the answer I think is really up to you. I would say to start ttc when you feel emotionally and physically ready again. I personally waited 1 cycle after my loss to start trying again. If I had a d&c I would have probably waited 3 cycles. Everyone heals at different speeds. You'll know when the time is right. (((HUGS)))
I look forward to getting to know you better.

I am very sorry for your loss.
I dont know aboutr TTC after a chemical pregnancy, but your hormones are already almost all the way done, so it definately wont take 3 months for that to happen.
I had a D&C and was 8 wks 3 days and was told to wait 3 months, which I waited longer, but D&C's cause more trauama to your uterus.
I wish I could help more. Maybe call other dr's and getting their opinions?
as far as progesterone. with my 1st son they never tested my progesterone and I had a healthy son (after complications, but he was healthy)
With my 2nd pregnancy I went in at 6 wks and my new dr. tested my progesterone, it was low, so we started suppositories, after SEVERAL complications, he was also born healthy but with a sick pancreas.
and then with my 3rd we didnt test my progesterone and at 8 wks 3 days found out our baby had died.
So i have the same questions you do, if low progesterone caused my m/c.
It could have caused yours, but I think you usually lose your baby a little later than than from progesterone but am not posiive.
Next time you get pregnant make sure your dr. will test your progesteronr right away!!! there is also away to test it when you are ovulating, and if its low they can start you on it then.
Good Luck,
Heather

i've always taken vitamins and when i told my doctor what i took, which is a one a day multivitamin and vitamin b6, he said it was fine.
my doctor also told me we could ttc again when we felt ready, but i also had a natural m/c.
i know i didn't provide much, but i hope it helps somewhat.
i hope you get the answers you are looking for.
i'm sorry for your loss.

First of all I want to say sorry for your loss, it's never easy no matter how long you knew they were with you. Second of all I was 16 1/2 weeks with my last m/c and told to wait 3 months to TTC again but at my follow up appt my dr, in so many words, told me it was more for emtional healing than anything else. Lastly on the progesterone thing, I don't know, but you've got me thinking now and if anybody knows the answer please post. I think I may be pg again and now I'm worried about the progesterone thing because of my short LP.

Courtney, I dont know if you read my reply, but when you get your positive test, call your dr. and ask him to check your progesterone right away, its ablood test. If its to low they will start you on vaginal suppositories. I had low progesterone with atleast one pregnancy that we know for sure of. and my kaiden was born healthy! so dont worry to much, just ask for the blood test whenyou get that BFP

Heather Thanks! I was actually really shocked when I started charting this time around at how short my LP is. I have charted in the past and don't remember it being that short. Anyway, I thought at first it was just short due to my m/c, but when it remained that same length for the next cycle I assumed it must be right. Unless that's why I haven't got my period yet is because my cycle is still regulating itself but I don't think so.

I just had a chemical PG last week too.
I can't answer your questions but I wanted to say I'm sorry you lost your baby.
I have my progesterone checked every month and mine was normal and I still lost my little one.
About waiting to TTC. I am not waiting. I figure most women wouldn't even know they m/c this early...and they don't wait.. Plus I have no patience when I feel like my *clock is ticking*.
With my m/c at 14 weeks I was only told to wait one cycle.

Hi Rachael, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you find this board helpful and supportive.
Waiting to TTC is a funny question because doctors can't seem to agree on this one. Some will tell you 1 cycle, some will say 2, and some will say 3 or more. Who knows for sure but I have never met a doctor who said anything less than 1 cycle.
I don't know anything about those vitamins but I would talk to your doctor about it. An LP of 10 days is considered on the low end of normal and could be something else to talk to your doctor about.
Unfortunately, you will probably never know why the mc happened. I am so sorry, I know how much it hurts and you can easily make yourself sick worrying about what it could have been. I know I did....
If this is your first mc, you have like an 85%-90% chance of having a happy, healthy pregnancy next time, so try not to worry yourself too much. I know that is a lot easier said than done though.
Take Care

I am so sorry for your loss. I had a d&c Oct 17th. The dr that did the d&c said to wait 2-3 cycles before ttc, and another dr said we could ttc after one normal cycle. I don't think there is an increased risk with ttc sooner, but they suggest you wait for dating purposes and emotional healing. We are waiting until January, not b/c we are "supposed to" but b/c of timing (we don't want the baby to be born in Aug/Sept/early Oct b/c dd will be starting pre-k and those are dh's busy times at work). Do what you feel is right for your family.
As for the progesterone, I don't know. GL ttc in the future!

Hi Rachael,
I'm so sorry for your loss!!!
As for waiting, I think it has to do with how you're doing emotionally and physically. There's no time limit on that, do what's best for you.
Good luck hun!!!!
