I had my post op appointment yesterday with my RE and he suggested that I sould have a saline ultrasound where they put dye through to check to see if my tubes are blocked. I am unsure what to expect with this If anyone has had this done I would really appreciate hearing about this procedure Thanks again girls for your help

hi Lily, I haven't had this done with saline, but I did have an HSG. They utilized dye. My OB suggested that I take motrin prior to the procedure and she offered me a prescription for ativan to decrease anxiety. I took both meds as ordered, had my DF go with me. The procedure itself was fairly quick. It is almost set up like a pap. I had a female radiologist. They insert a pliable tube into your cervix, instill enough solution to see it flow into your uterus (via xray) and out both tubes. I had to rotate my hips alittle from side to side, but the dye flowed easily. The discomfort was minimal but the ativan really helped. It made me feel like I didn't have a care in the world. I am under the impression that it only becomes painful if you have a blockage. The most amazing thing is that the next ovulation I became pregnant as did one of my friends after completing her hsg. Unfortunately I did miscarry around 10 wks am in the recovery period. I felt so much relief after getting the procedure done because then I knew that I didn't have anything structural to inhibit pregnancy. And, if there is a little "sludge" in your tubes that may be preventing pregnancy, it flushes it out. I hope this helped and I wish you luck!

I have had this done recently.... and I did a ton of research before I went. I will share my story even though it isn't a great one.

I think my experience was not the *normal* one. For me this test HURT

Basically they did an u/s after insterting a small catheter throught the cervix into the uterus. They then fill the tubes with saline. That is the part that hurt.... when the saline went in. Instering the catheter didn't hurt. It was just the balloon type thing that fills the uterus. They did mine because they saw a polyp on a regular u/s. After the saline u/s the next month they still had me do the HSG x-ray where the inject dye. Honestly that one was a piece of cake compared to the saline u/s.

If I could do it all over again I would have had Dave with me. I took 4 Aleve before I went....two the day before and two a couple hours before I went. I think I would take Advil instead if I could do it all over.

I hope you have the normal experience where it's a piece of cake

Thanks so much for your reply Bobbie. That is exactly the ultrasound that my RE explained to me. I am so sorry you had such a bad experience with yours. I am scared to have this done. I just dont want anything to go wrong. After having my d&c last month and my polyp removed as well I have decided to get this done after the holidays just to give my body a rest. Now I will be prepared for what will happen and what to expect and I will definately have DH with me as I was going to go in on my own. Thanks again
