Hello Ladies..

I just got a call from our local health department telling me that a nursery worker from my church has come down with Bacterial meningitis..Shes in the hospital. And that she was there on Dec 2nd and that Layla was in nursery that day! Which means i need to call my pediatrician and get a prevenative antibiotic for layla like TODAY.

Ive never been one to jump all over antibiotics.. really dont think the stuff is great.. and laylas never had them before.. im kinda scared to put her on it... BUT now im freaking out because the last week or so shes had a really runny, stuffy junked up nose and has been coughing a bit today... i was thinking cold.. but now..yeh im a little stressed...

But i read up on it a bit and they dont say anything about cold symptoms being part of it.. just a high fever.. which she hasnt had...

I hate the fact that she has to be put on antibiotics.. But if something were to happen id NEVER forgive myself.

anyone else had this happen to them??

~Em

Well i am done giving her the antibiotics! and she did SO wonderful! i didnt have to fight her at all!!! shed take right down and then reach for her peive of pepperment candy that i had waiting for her..

im so glad thats over...no reactions to the medicine or anything.... Her pee turned pink though!! the antibiotics were bright red...

She's got a cold right now.. but its not affecting her mood to much... just a low fever... shes just as happy and crazy as ever..

You would def KNOW if she had meningitis. It comes on very fast and the person is very very sick. My husband had viral meningitis which is not as dangerous but presents with the same symptoms and it was def more than a little cold. It was "grown man crying" kind of pain and very high fever.

I know how you feel about the antibiotics. Fortunately we've never needed to use them for our kids but I'm sure prophylatically one time she will be fine and like you said in this case it's better to be safe.

Don't worry.

I hope she is ok! Keep us updated. I think priddymama is right, I was a preschool teacher and we were trained on all that kinda stuff and it's something that hits fast and hits hard.

I'm glad that she's still a happy girl! And I think I would have hated to give Erin antibiotics too, but I totally agree with why you did.

Oh how scary. I am glad that you got her on the antibiotics and she did well. Naden loves the antibiotics. He always hands me the surenge like, come on mamma, it's time for the pink stuff! He has had 3 ear infections so I had to give it to him on 3 different occasions. Wrapping up from the last ear infection now so just a couple more days.
