Hi everyone. On sunday we brought samson home after he started to eat boiled chicken on his own. He did really well during the evening. I covered his belly with a tshirt and covered his back paws with socks so he couldn't scratch at his incision. Some how, bless his little furry heart, he did manage to get to it a bit. But, the major problem is that monday morning, he refused to eat. He did drink some water a couple of times, but by 2pm, he vomited food from the night before. He was taken back to the emergency hospital and was readmitted. They placed a tube down his nose into his belly to aspirate out the contents. He had about 4oz of liquid that wouldn't pass through his stomach into his intestines. And he was showing signs of abdominal pain. Now the doctors are thinking that he has an ileus (slow moving bowels that back stuff into the stomach) AND or pancreatitis. Pancreatitis in dogs is not such a good thing, and if isn't corrected quickly can end up killing them. Plus it can develop into a lifelong illness. I knew he was in pain last night and it killed me. I cried all night. He is doing better pain wise this morning. I wont be able to find out if he has pancreatitis until tomorrow when his labs come back. The vet bill is outrageous and just keeps growing, but I know my dog has several good years left in him, and I couldn't live with myself if I pulled the plug right now. So, everyone please pray that this resolves quickly and that he gets better. Heck, pray that he doesn't even have pancreatitis!! Thanks!
********UPDATE*********
Well, he has pancreatitis. The ultrasound was positive for it today. we are still waiting for his labs but are certain they will support the ultrasound. We do feel that it was caught early (saturdays ultrasound was negative for it). He has a little tube down his nose and is getting feed tiny amounts of food every hour. He is getting some pretty good pain medication. I have spent almost all day with him, hoping to give him enough security and support to get better. I even made my vet (a man) tear up. Plus, my acupuncturist even asked if she could acupuncture on him when he is out. She offered to do it for free. She is a huge dog lover and lost her golden retriever one year ago this month. Keep the positive thoughts coming. I will keep giving him the pep talks and hopefully I can get him home by this weekend. The only one good thing that has come out of this so far is that I haven't had time to focus on my miscarriage, and stress has made me loose the extra weight and bloat that I had developed. Very costly weight reduction plan.
