Normal people usually see one maybe two days of a +. I get five
It just makes it hard to time BDing. I end up feeling like I have to have sex for a week straight because I *might* be Oing.
I guess I am just frustrated with TTC at the moment.

oh ok, i see.
On my OPK's it says once you get a positive, not to test again??? maybe thats why you see so many, because you are still testing afterthe 1st positive? not sure...... but I understand being upset with TTC, lol.

I have never understood why they tell you to stop testing?
If I stopped testing after the first positive I would assume I already Oed and take a BD break.... then I would never get PG
My LH surge lasts around 5 days. And to top it off I am pretty sure I actually O two days after the surge. I think I am too old for all this sex

Hi, I am in a study at the University here testing OPK (First Response). I hear you. This was my first concern that I had when I began the study.
Here is the info I have learned about OPKs. Sorry if you already know all of this, I just find it so interesting so I have been sharing.
The goal of an OPK is to see the change to positive. Test a few days before you think you'll O until you get a true positive, where the line is at least as dark as the control line. Once you get a positive, you can stop testing. Once you see the change from negative to positive, you will likely O within 24 hours. So the goal is to catch that change.
Personally, I get seven positives when I test all month. They provide the supplies for me so cost isn't an issue. The Doc incharge of the study said that some women are positive until their period and others are only positive for one day. It really does not matter. The LH surge, as detected by your OPK, is a different curve for everyone. Some have LH that rises slowly (where you see the line getting darker and darker toward a positive) and drop slowly. Others see a slow positive then a quick negative and vice versa.
Picture the LH like a needle popping the blister hold your egg follicle. Once it pops (turns positive from a negative) you saw what you needed to see and can proceed with your BD! You don't have to BD the entire time the OPK is positive. Once it turns positive the very first time, it is telling you that the follicle has been released.
A schedule we kind of came up with (the doc and I) is this:
I usually get my first positive OPK on CD 15. I get O symptoms on CD 16. So we BD CD 11,13,15,16. Day 14 too if we have the energy.
Of course...Six months later and I am not pregnant (2 months in the study). But, the doc feels that that is the optimum timing plan for my cycle. Although I have random CD 9 Os so it is throwing us off.
Hope that helps!

Lucky for you to be in that study and get the tests for free Maybe you should stick around and post with us...we would love to hear more about it.
I had a D&C a couple months back and they did routine testing and it showed I was Oing two days after my temps and OPK's said I was so I am sure you put a lot of faith in OPK's but for me testing the tissue was the *deal breaker* I know I O at the end of my surge not at the begining.
You might want to try getting an extra BD session in on CD 18 and see if that helps you get PG. It worked for me. Granted it was a chemical PG...at least it was a pregnancy.
Good luck TTC

Hmm.... sex for a straight week.. I think my DF would be happy about that right now! Once I get my first positive OPK, as long as it coincides with my chart.

Just curious: have you ever tried a fertility monitor? I'm wondering because I tried the OPKs for a few months and was getting consistent multiple-day positives from about CD17-CD21 (and freaking out 'cause they were so late in my cycle). The whole time using the OPKs, all I got were BFNs. I switched to a CBEFM and the first month I used it it showed "peak" fertility on CD 10-11. Weird, eh? So we changed up our routine and wham! BFP on the first try. (Of course, that lead to my Dec. m/c but that's beside the point.) I'm eager to start using the FM again to see if the last time was a fluke or if I do really O that early in my cycle. Today's CD2 for my first cycle post m/c.

I am so sorry you lost your baby I hope you get a BFP soon and a sticky bean at that! Good luck this cycle
HMMM that's really interesting! Maybe I will break down and buy one. I know my doctor is not a fan of OPK's. He told me they are a waste of money....but I am such a control freak with this TTCing. I wish I could just look into my body and know for sure what it's doing. I think I am going to try it if this cycle is another failure.
Thanks for the post!

LMAO. Tell Dave not to feel bad. My "younger model" is 30 and he was worn out with every other day. He was talking about getting a vile for me to baste myself, remember! LOL

Danica... hemay be on to something there
Okay so today was the darkest + yet. I really think there is something wrong with me! Maybe I should do a HPT to be sure I am not PG <wink> Okay that would be silly but man this is one crazy LH surge.
Advice? Tylenol? My head hurts from banging it on the wall.

And I thought I was the only who DH got tired of BDing. Mine is an older model too - will turn 43 tomorrow. I am an older model myself at 42 so just 2 times a week is plenty for us. But this cycle we agreed to knock ourselves out with an every other night routine.
