As I mentioned in another thread, I tried OPKs and for months got really confusing results (late O, positives for four to five days, etc). I bought a Clear Blue Easy fertility monitor on eBay (used) for about $70. You can also get the test sticks on eBay, which run around $30 for 30 sticks (a three-month supply for "normal" cycles). Off the shelf, the monitors run right around $200 and the 30-pack of sticks about $50, so eBay was the way to go for me.
As for my results? Well, after months of BFNs with the OPKs, I got a BFP the first month using the monitor. The FM and the OPKs showed a BIG discrepancy on when I O'ed. While I can't speak to the CBEFM's accuracy long-term, it did help me, and I will be using it again this cycle (first post m/c).
I read tons of positive reviews for ClearBlue Easy. OvaCue is supposedly the top-of-the-line FM, allegedly designed for/by doctors. (It was hailed as the "gold standard" in a fertility book I read.) However, you can't find them cheap - expect to pay around $350 for one. (Some places rent them, I've been told, but I've never found such a site.) The bonus? No sticks to buy. You use a vaginal or oral probe to test levels. (Some of us, however, enjoy playing bathroom chemist and POAS!)
Of course, YMMV.
