A little background: I had to have an on-call doctor for my surgery on Sat. Dec 1st. Really nice doctor, my mom has worked with him for 17 years or so(she's an RN at the hospital). He tells me to follow up my surgery with serial bet hcg's to make sure my numbers went back down to 0, and he suggested having an HSG a few months after. I then have to go for my post-OP appointment the follow Thurs., with one of the doctors at my midwive's office. He tells me I don't need to do anything else and wait 3 cycles to TTC again. I thought ok, well that wasn't what the surgeon told me. And I called the next week saying so, and that I would really appreciate an HCG to watch my levels. I had to tell them that I wanted another after that too, and he was very reluctant both times. Sooo....

His nurse called me yesterday to give me the results of my last HCG, and it was <2 , Yay! And then I tell her how the surgeon had suggested I get an HSG, and if I could have one. She consulted the doctor, and called me back later. To tell me "he said no". And "the only thing you can do is to try and get pregnant again, and we'll monitor you really close". WTFlip?!! I ask her about scar tissue because he had to sew my tube back together. And she told me "an HSG won't help you". GRRRrrrrr..... So needless to say I really don't like this doctor(or his nurse). So I might have to change to the other doc. I'll be calling him today, to get his thoughts on an HSG again. Thanks for letting me vent ladies!

So what once was a semi-scheduled TTC time-frame, is now up in the air again! *sigh*

Edited for typos

Yay for your count!!!

Ugh about the doc. I would get a new one that is willing to listen and help or at least a doctor who is willing to speak with the doc who recommended the HSG. Good Luck!

Ditto what Danica said! He should at least consult the other guy!

And an HSG would TELL you if you had a lot of scar tissue, wouldn't it? Isn't that the point?

yeh... good HCG counts! and i was ONLY aloud to deal with the Dr. who did my d&c... i had the opposite problem.. i WANTED to get my follow up with someone else.. but couldnt..

its so strange how different offices handle things... i would think you could at least have him cunsult the surgeon.. why not!

I really hate that patronizing attitude that so many physicians have towards their patients. It seems a lot of the time like they just don't want to bother with you as a patient, so they blow you off. We end up having to fight just to be treated like people. I don't understand it. I hope you do change doctors and get one who will actually listen to what you want. It shouldn't matter if he doesn't think you need betas. If you want them, he should eagerly let you do it-it doesn't take any of his time; the nurse or phlebotomist takes your blood! ARGH it just boils my blood!

I would find a new doc! There are a lot of good ones out there who will actually listen to you, so you don't need to waste your time with the crappy ones.
Yay for your levels tho!

I'm happy to see that your hCG has dropped!!! That's awesome!!!

I totally agree with finding another doctor! But! If you like your doctor (until now) what I suggest is making an appointment to just talk to him. Tell him face-to-face what the surgeon suggested, and how you'd like to go through with it. Over the phone never really gets the point across, since, after all, you're speaking to his nurse and not him. If that doesn't work, to hell with him!!! You deserve to be treated a certain way, and if he can't do that, take your booty somewhere else!

that is EXACTLY my thoughts!!!! I have dealt with my share of awful doctors, some of whom landed me in the not-so-reproductive position I am in today. Knowing that you had your tube sewed back together, I would TOTALLY recommend an HSG!!!!! True, it might not "help" physically, but it would give you knowledge, and isn't that why we go to the dr in the first place? To find out if there's something wrong??? Ugh. I hate stupid drs!!!
I love my OB, I know he'd do one as soon as he thought I was healed if that was the case for me. He is all about the patient and their needs, and he does tell it like it is. let me know if you want to come to MN!

I am so glad to hear your hcg levels are down in the negatives! You're back on the road to normal cycles.

Boo on the doctor and his attitud-y nurse! You are the customer, he works for you. Some doctors fail to understand that concept, believe be I know. If he's not doing what you ask - move on to one that will. An HSG is totally warranted since you had to have your tube surgically repaired. If there is scar tissue, they may be able to do a hysteroscopy to clear a path through it or put a stint in there to keep it open. I could understand if they said it was too soon to do the hsg, but its crazy for them to say its not necessary.
