well, my second set of levels are 27,000.
they only went up 10,000 in 48 hours. they aren't doubling every 48 hours.
so the doctor considers this to be "borderline" and "we'll just have to wait and see what happens".
i'm so stressed!! ugh!!

I was told that after you reach 2500, it may take 96 hours to double. I went looking for the article someone had me read and I can't find it however this does state that it does take longer.
Quote:
In a bout 85% of normal pregnancies, the hCG level will double every 48 - 72 hours. As you get further along in pregnancy and the hCG level gets higher, the time it takes to double can increase to about every 96 hours.
Caution must be used in making too much of hCG numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hCG levels and result in a perfectly healthy baby. The results from an ultrasound after 5 - 6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hCG numbers.[/b]

Have they scheduled an u/s yet?

they have not scheduled an u/s yet. i'm assuming they will do one during my first appointment, which is on 1/18. they did one at 4 weeks, but that was to make sure i didn't have an ectopic--i saw the sac and everything was where it's supposed to be.
when i first heard the numbers, i wasn't too worried either, because of what you quoted above, but that nurse scared the crap out of me!
thank you so much for finding that information!

I'm so sorry Mindy, this numbers thing is so nerve wracking. I'm sure everything is okay though. Its too bad they won't just do an u/s to ease your worries, but again, I think everything is going fine!! ***sticky vibes***

Mindy,
Doctors/nurses can be alarmist at times. As pp's have already said, it can take up to 72 hours for your levels to double when your levels are in the 1000's, and even longer when they are in the 10,000's. Your bean is cookin' girl. Sending prayers and positive thoughts your way.

Hon.... you will be just fine
I hate when people say things without thinking. Why couldn't she have just said they still want to monitor the levels and left it at that if it was still *normal*? Why add more stress when it isn't necessary! GRRR
I hope after the next set they leave your veins alone

what everyone else has said. It sounds like your numbers are just fine. I wouldn't worry about what the nurse said. I am sure everything will be just great next week at your u/s! You are in my T&Ps.
