In 2007 my Niece, at 5 yrs old, became really sick, started with little blood blister type things under her skin all over, then she started bruising everywhere, for no reason.

My sister took her to the dr.'s where they did a blood draw and her platelets came back as 3,000!! Normal is 150,000-450,000.

At any time she could bleed out and die.

There needs to be more research and awareness made on this condition. But they need more money to do that.

This site is raising money and awareness on ITP in May! It is a scrapbooking site my sister has been a part of for years. They will be holding a Benefit Crop, but you do not have to scrapbook to take part in it. They will be selling items, etc..... and the money you spend on those items will go to ITP research! They do awareness crops several times about different things that need more research. Iwould love it if you guys could join and take part in the ITP Benefit Crop in May!!

She's beautiful. I have never heard of ITP before, but it sounds very scary.

My half brother developed ITP when he was around 2. He is 28 now with 2 little girls. My mother (not his mom, we are related through our father) developed ITP at the age of 55. It is not a fun disease. Because my mother developed it, I am at higher risk for developing an autoimmune disease. Which stinks. Heck ITP stinks!

Oh, and what causes ITP is that the immune system is stimulated by exposure to a virus. In the end it ends up attacking and destroying the platelets. I am glad that she is doing well. Most childrens respond the the treatment. My brother is a prime example.

I am so glad to hear your brother is much better now that sucks your mom developed it so late n life, I head when it happens late in life it tends to be chronic?

The video said that it was 2 wks ago right? that was when I made it, now it has been 9 months and she is still doing GREAT! no more setbacks so she will probably be in the clear.

But because of dr's not knowing all about it etc.... they are trying to raise money for more research and awarenes.

I hope you never develop it!

My mom was 38 when she developed TTP. It was an extremely scary situation. But after several weeks of plasmapheresis she was better. It's been 10 years and she's fine. I will keep your niece in my prayers.
