I felt so sad when I read this part:
Quote:
Member question: Is miscarriage after seeing a healthy fetus and heart beat common?
Dr. Amos: No, that's uncommon. Once you see the fetal heart beat above 100 beats per minute your risk of having a miscarriage is well below 10 percent.[/b]

I saw my baby and the heartbeat was amazing and then it just stopped at 9 weeks. I cant believe I was in the 10% of miscarriage

We saw our baby's heartbeat at 7 w 1 d and lost it at 8 w 4 d. I think the percentage is a little off. I read somewhere that it used to be 5-10% chance after seeing the baby's heartbeat but with ultrasounds taking place earlier and earlier that the percentage is actually higher now. One of my friends is an ob/gyn nurse that works directly with a doctor and she also lost her first pregnancy at 10 weeks and went on to carry a healthy baby boy who is now a little over a year. I searched and searched afterwards trying to find an answer and talked to several doctors and they said it was a genetic malformation of the baby. We are currently pregnant again after waiting 3 months. (We lost the baby Sept. 16, had a d and c Sept 18 and then of course I had retained tissue and had another d/c on Oct. 20. I'm an O.R. nurse so they say if there is a risk of something it will end up happening to us. I.E. retained tissue) Anyway...I'm hoping I have a sticky bean this time around but I'm constantly worried. Most women will be able to have a sigh of relief after seeing the baby's heartbeat...not I. I won't feel okay until the baby is in our arms. Good luck to you. And you're not alone I promise.

I was 6w1d when I saw the baby's heartbeart. I lost him at 7w2d. I just pray everyday that this does not happen to me again, or anyone! That percentage seems off to me though...

We heard the heartbeat at 12 weeks - strong - in the 160's I believe. Then the heart stopped beating at 14 weeks.....

I saw the baby's hb at 8w2d and it stopped beating at 8w4d. The doc said that it's less than a 5% chance of m/c after you see a hb. I believe him, and it makes me feel positive about my next pg...since I most likely won't be in the 5% next time, kwim?

I saw my baby's heartbeat also. I don't really believe the risk of miscarriage is only 5%.
Like Amanda said, people used to not get early ultrasounds and many people STILL don't. I know there were people in my DDC not getting them until towards the end of the first trimester. If I had waited that long to get mine, the heartbeat would have already have been gone and I never would have know that my baby HAD a heartbeat, KWIM?
That said, I know it will be hard next time because seeing the heartbeat does not mean I get to relax and think everything will be okay.

I am not sure what I believe, because my doctor told me something similar, less than 5% chance. However, Shannon is right, how is that really possible to measure?? I know that it happened to me, and it obviously has happened to several others, so it seems a little more common than 5-10%, but who knows. I just know that I am waiting until the 2nd trimester next time before I relax(if that's possible!).

I also would have thought it was more than that, like mentioned before, how can they come up with that figure?
Good luck TTC

I'm not trying to knock your doctor, but I think that statistic is not entirely accurate. It highly depends on the person, fetus, and circumstance. Miscarriage is becoming very common amongst younger people and especially before the first twelve weeks. I think at one point that statistic was more accurate but it has jumped in the last several years. At least in the U.S. anyways.

My doctor told me at my 10 week u/s that the chance of me m/c was 1-3%. I guess I am VERY unlucky. My baby was gone just a week later.
