Super interesting. I had read before it is a contributing factor and have laid off the caffine...but didn't realize there was new research. Thanks for sharing Jessica!

lol Jessica! I just came on here to post the exact same story. I saw it on CNN online, but I am sure the same info. Kinda interesting.
(Here's the 4 min CNN interview with an OBGYN in case anyone wants to see that too...) CNN clip

I read that on CNN.com today...it was interesting. I knew that caffeine while pregnant wasn't a good idea, but after that I don't ever want to drink coffee again!!

Looks like we're all in the know about the news!!!! Isn't that weird that we're all reading the same article at the same time? We need to get out of eachother's heads!!!!

Thats so funny.. My DH also read that article to me today...
I am like heather, i stop drinking caffeine when and after i ovulate... i might drink a cup of coffee with half the caffeine once every other day... but i pretty much stop it.. and now that ive had a miscarriage, ill probably cut it out all together as soon as i know i am pregnant until the 2nd trimester

it's all over the news and internet today.....
I just hope that NO one starts to second guess what they did while pregnant and blame themselves for anything.... that's one of the bad things about "new research" !!

Nice, just one more thing to freak out about and worry about! I'm almost to the point of saying forget it, it's not even worth it to try because their are too many chances of miscarrying again. Of course then I stop and say to myself, now wait a minute, if all this is true, then it is amazing that my children ever made it here alive and well, and that I and my sisters ever made it here as both my mom and I drank coffee while pg. On top of that sometimes I think they just try to really freak you out about everything. I mean look at the women who smoke or do drugs while pg and still have babies who make it to term. I don't know but I really think it's a bunch of bull. Why don't I just cut out everything I enjoy and eat only veggies and fish, and drink only water. Then maybe I won't m/c right? Wrong I say. What will they come up with next that they think causes m/c. Sounds like to me just about anything can cause you to m/c. No wonder they call birth a miracle, eh?
Sorry to vent, it just makes me mad that they want to give all of us, one more thing to worry about. As if we don't already have enough stress in our lives. Now I have to cut out my morning cup of joe. I just want to say, forget it then, TTC isn't even worth it.

I think that like with everything in life that moderation is key.
HUGS Courtney, don't give up. I remember when I was pregnant and they said do this, do that. I remember thinking when someone told me what side of my body to sleep on, "how the heck did our ancestors survive?" But they didn't have all this information and they had babies just fine and healthy. Keep that in mind and take it as knowledge that is good to know but not to obsess over. I mean, if I am pregnant and I want a turkey sandwich that I am going to have it, you just have to use your own judgment. HUGS

wow, i gave up caffeine around 7wks, which was the time of miscarriage. I drank very little. Not even 100mg a day. After the m/c, I continued to avoid most caffeine. I do eat chocolate. Can't give that up. It's like oxygen for me.

Doesn't affect me since I don't drink coffee. I do eat chocolate and I won't stop that, because I really don't think it's much caffeine at all compared to coffee. I did cheat once while I pg and eat lunchmeat.
Honestly though, a large number of miscarriages are genetic and there is just nothing you can do about those.
I'm starting to think that is what probably what happened with me.

You know, after a lot of thinking tonight and long talk with Dwayne about this study, I've honestly come to the conclusion that studies like this are released to just send everyone into over drive in their daily lives. I personally don't drink coffee on a daily basis, I might have a cup or two a month, probably less. Soda is my problem, and have cut that out a good amount lately. I'm drinking plenty of water or milk now.
Miscarriage happens for a reason, and it's not because you drank too much coffee/tea/hot chocolate. Or because you ate cold deli meat, or because you didn't take your Materna with your morning glass of orange juice. It just happens! If God had anything to do with miscarriage -- I'd like to ask him quite a few questions about it when I open those gates! If not, then I guess the only person I can ask is my doctor, and all I can do is heal the best way I can.
I'm sorry if this came out as a vent, but I had to say it!!

Thanks for the post Jessica
Personally I don't believe that caff. has anything to do with mc. I hate to admit I was bad with my first 2 pregnancies and all I drank was drinks with caff in them and now those babies are 13 and 2. I stopped drinking caff about 6 months in with my youngest.
When I was pregnant with my 3rd and mc'd, I didn't drink caff at all. It does bother me when someone comes up with an idea and can find a way to manipulate the data to make it look bad. Just as Jessica said above, gets everybody in a frenzy. Things like this can do more harm than good because how many of us would be willing to blame ourselves for causing the mc just for having caff.
The following is a quote from the article:
One theory is that morning sickness, which can actually occur at any time of the day, is nature's way of protecting the unborn baby from toxins and-chemicals that can harm fetal development.
I never had any morning sickness with any of my children.

I'm right there with you Jess and UK! That was the point I was trying to make yesterday and I'm sorry I just went off about it, it just kind of hit me wrong. I just hate when they manipulate the science, being a scientist myself, I don't understand how they can consider that a reliable conculsion. Sounds like to me the way they came up with this data was to ask women that had m/c'd how many cups of coffee they consumed while pg then made their conculsion off of that. No where did it say that these women's backgrounds were researched for other means of m/c. It's just ludicriss!
That would be like asking all of us if we drank coffee while we were pg and then basing their theory off of that. I would venture to imagine about half of us did or have drank coffee while pg but that doesn't mean that it increased our risk by 50% or that it was the direct cause of our m/c, it only means that 50% of us drank coffee while pg. I don't know how they figure that they can directly link m/c to caffine consumption. It's just a means of getting a rise out of everyone and making women who are trying to conceive or who are already pg worry about one more thing so that the dr's can make an extra buck. It's all completely political not scientific.

I think it's bull too. I think m/c just happen sometimes, and I don't think caffeine has anything to do with it. I don't do caffeine anyway, b/c it gives me panic attacks, but I use to. I did cut it out while pg, but that's b/c it made me nauseous, and later in the pgs when I would have a little cup, the baby would freak out and kick all day...so that's why I didn't drink. But I did eat cold lunchmeat. I hate when they come out with these new studies. I'm neurotic enough b/c of all the info I've learned on the internet over the years. I really miss the time during my first, and even 2nd pgs, when I was blissfully unaware of everything that could go wrong *sigh*
