A good friend of mine is 27 weeks along. She has been experiencing severe lower pelvic pressure and bad back pain, along with very bad gas-like pains since yesterday. She already knows she probably has placenta previa as the docs have told her that her placenta is in the wrong place and they monitor her every few weeks. This pressure / pain is new, though, as of yesterday.
I think she should call her doctor immediately, but she doesn't want to because she has an appointment tomorrow anyway and doesn't want to "bug them" or "overreact".
I don't know anything about pre-term stuff, but I know some of you sadly do.
Any advice?

Well first off, is it in any kind of pattern? I would start monitor that because more than likely the dr.'s office will ask. Second, I'm the kind of person who says "better safe than sorry", and I don't care who I have to "bug" when it comes to my children's wellfare. Plus she is paying them how much?...yeah I'd get every penny's worth out of them! Good luck to her!

I agree that she should call her doctor. She is not bugging them - they work for her. My pre-term labor(s) started with low back pain and pressure - feeling like I needed to go to the bathroom. Fortunately, my early labors were able to be held off, in part because I never hesitated to call or go to l&d.

she should def go, with my second daughter i waiting at home because i thought i was just having braxton hicks, and they got more frequent and i still waited for them to go away, lets just say they didn't and by the time i got to L&D i was 4cm dialated and 95% efaced, my water bag was bulging and the baby was a -1 so i shouldn't have waited. I was flown by helo to the Army hospital because they didn't think they were going to be able to stop my labor and wanted me at a hospital where they had a nicu. Anyway moral of the story if she feels like something is wrong then she should go and not wait before its too late. I was 30 weeks when this happened and i carried her till 38 by my due date but in my eyes i was only 36 from conception.

Thanks, everyone.
Lori, it is scary that you say that, because that is precisely what she is describing. She told me she feels like she has to pee very, very badly, and then she goes and that feeling doesn't change at all. She said she has pain from about 2 inches above her belly button shooting downward, her lower back hurts, and she feels pressure and pee pain. To me, I say get thee to the hospital because they do work for her! But I can't convince her that tomorrow might be too late if she is not careful! :-(

Oh man, I hope it is nothing but it is better for her to be safe than sorry and go in. I think you are a good friend for trying to convince her but in the end I guess it is her decision so try to just support whatever she finally decides to do. I really hope she at least calls them. That is what they get paid the big bucks for.

she needs to go to a dr. asap.......it may not be preterm labor, hopefully its not....BUT it could be a Bladder infection of kidney stones.

Sounds more like a bladder infection to me, on top of having Pelvic Pain (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction)
BUT I would DEFINATELY go in, especialy if she is placenta previa, that is nothing to play around with.
I have had preterm labor at 26 wks, I had pressure (not like peeing pressure though) and my uterus kept getting tight off and on. I went in and was 2cm and 25% effaced, and my bag of waters was leaking, I was in the hospital almost a week with alot of drugs/antibiotics, steroids fo rthe baby, etc..... I was lucky and made it to 36 wks.
I would call her back and let her know she really should get checked, the dr's do not think she is bugging them! they would rather be safe than sorry, then deal with placental abruption from her previa, and PTL.
Keep us updated please, she is in my thoughts!

well I dont want to scare you but I went into PTL at 21 weeks and it felt likr bad gas pains and lots of pelvic pressure. at the beginning it wasnt in any type of pattern, kinda sparatic almost. After a while it did become more constant where it could be timed etc. At 27 weeks she should just make a trip to L& D to get checked out, it definately couldnt hurt. I just hate to see someone else mistake PTL for something normal like I did. I was in labor for over 24 hrs b 4 I realized!!

Oh I really wish she would go in somewhere today just to be sure.
Is there anyway you can convince her? At least to call?

Thanks, girls, for being so candid and sharing your stories. This is just what I fear - what if it is something and she ignores it? It is something that I don't mind pushing because she is a very close friend, but I can only be so nosy before I've said my piece and it really is none of my business, ya know? I tried. She won't go. She is going tomorrow morning, thank God, by chance for her regular appointment anyway so I guess we'll know more tommorrow.
I'll definitely keep you all in the loop!

I edited my post because I realize I said NOT go in and I meant to say to GO IN. DUH, I can't think today... it's all the trips to the bathroom making me wacky.
I really hope it is nothing but she will most definately be in my t's & p's. Please KUP

Sounds exactly like what happened when at 33 weeks with Erin and had a bladder infection so bad it was putting me into labor.
I hope everything goes well tonight and tomorrow morning isn't too late!
It took my mother an hour and a half on the phone to convince me to go in to L&D. It took them 3 shots and 2 pills to stop the contractions.
