no they certainly don't!!! this is what P's me O about the cosmetic industry. They are not required to list their ingredients (or they weren't when I worked in the industry anyway). What gets me even madder is that only 1% of a product has to be "natural" in order for the product to be labeled as natural. only 70% of a product has to be organic in order for the product to be labeled as organic. And you can easily make a lotion 70% organic . . . because 70% of it is WATER!!!!! They will either use de-ionozed filtered water which is as close to "organic" water as you can get, or soak organic herbs/flowers in water and strain them out, which is how you make a "hydrosol", which they then label as organic. Mind you the other 30% of the product can be absolute CRAP but they will label it as organic anyway.

READ YOUR LABELS! Educate yourself on what the ingredients are if you don't know. NEVER assume that just because it is on the shelf in the store that it is 100% safe. Yes, you will pay more if you buy (rather than make yourself) the 100% natural products but that's because the "bad" ingredients tend to be cheaper, which is why companies use them in the first place. It's all about the almightly dollar, not about the consumer as they would have you believe.

I'll be making my own baby products, and will be more than happy to post recipies (and where to get the ingredients).

I totally agree. I'll try not to rant because this topic is dear to my heart. I co-own a natural skin care company and during the phase of building the business one thing we had to do is A LOT of research. It is absolultely amazing when you start looking into what is skin care products & what the FDA doesn't regulate at all. What people forget is the that the skin is the largest organ on your body. You skin absorbs what you put on it, just think about the birth control patch. The skin patch is an effective way of absorbing the medicine, it obviously works so why put lotions filled with parabens, mineral oils, and synthetic fragrances all over your baby or yourself? Even when you buy natural you really have to research the quality of the natural products. Some shea butter may say natural but it is chemically refined to strip it of all natural woodsy scent and make it stark white which removes all of the good stuff so that it will be more versitile and consistant for the consumer. UGH

way to go for you!!!!! It's been a consideration for me to do that, other have asked me to, but not right now. Right now I am content to work out my recipes. maybe in a few years, who knows!

the saying goes, if you wouldn't put it in your mouth and swallow it, DON'T put it on your skin!!!

That is sooo true Anne. My business partner and myself were talking about what warnings to put on our labels and we were laughing about the keep out of reach of kids warning. We were like, well if would just give them the runs probably but it would probably taste good LOL

that is too funny! I gotta say, though, aside from the soap bars (yuck!) I'd feel comfortable eating any skin care products I make
