I just found an herbal remedy to prevent m/c and I was wondering if any of you guys have heard of it or used it. It is from Deb Soule...Two parts black haw, one part false unicorn, and one part wild yam. You mix several drops of the tinctures and drink them a couple times a day. I personally have no experience with these herbs and I wondered if anyone has used them?

false unicorn is known as a miscarriage prevention herb, but keep in mind that if the fetus isn't healthy, it won't save it. The herb combination that i know of is false unicorn & lobelia, which can be found if you google Dr. Christopher. He has a really neat history to read. He has long since passed away but his children still make his remedies and run a holistic school.

That is interesting. I don't know if I wanna try it or anything. I just have never worked with those herbs before. I definitely didn't want to try it unless you or Danica knew more about it, lol. I have heard her talk about them before though. I do have good news....yesterday, I was very busy packing for the move and I started getting pretty crampy....so I drank a cup of raspberry leaf tea and put my feet up for a bit. And believe it or not, it actaully worked. I was kinds suprised because they were completely gone. I'm sure taking a break helped a lot too. But either way, I don't think I'll be letting myself run out of that stuff. lol

It sure made me a believer. I am hoping to find a good health food store where we are moving. It is a much bigger place so I'm sure I will. I hope that you heal fast so you can TTC again. How are you feeling?

pretty good overall. I just feel like AF is here. bloated and craving junk food. cramps aren't bad but I don't know what they will be like when I pass the sac or if it will disentigrate and I won't know it? bleeding was heavy for me yesterday, but then my AF's were always so light what is heavy for me I think would be a light AF for someone else. No clots yet either, and the bleeding has tapered off for right now but I'm on my way downstairs to work out so that should help get things moving again.

I always say with each loss, if they are going to take my babies the could at least leave me my pg boobs! I miss them too . . .

DH always says (humorous) sarcasm is the secret to our happy marriage! Really, that's about the only way I survive sometimes.

That's funny, lol. I know what you mean. Me and DH are always giving each other a hard time. It keeps us laughing. Tha world can be a pretty ugly place when you stop finding things to laugh about. lol My Mom always laughs when something goes wrong...she says she laughs to keep from crying. I guess I got that from her. So keep laughin' girl...you'll have your happy ending.

Good luck to both of you! I've never heard of that stuff before, but it would be interesting to know if it works.

I just saw this post

I've heard of both too but ditto what Anne says. If there is a genetic issue then there is not stopping it but it is supposed to be good to prevent m/c for the other reasons. I am not sure about taking them both together but the book I am reading says if you take black haw to begin drinking 1 or 2 cups of tea or half infusion and can be used throughout pregnancy. The False Unicorn says 3 drops four or five times dailys beginning a month before conception and through the 1st tri. I actually wrote the author of this book a while back and one of her admins responded and confirmed that the alchohol extracted false unicorn is what is being referred to. I could not find the non-alchohold extracted or even the actual root.

I would love to go to school to learn more about these western herbs and also more about eastern herbs too!

I know what you mean. It so interesting! I read stuff about it all the time. The recipe I have says..20 drops of Black haw, then 10 of the other 2. That sounds like a lot. She says to drink it 2-3 times a day...then if there is spotting, drink it every 2 hours until it stops. So if it were you, would you use this much...just curious..you know more than I do.

Honestly, I wouldn't. That is the thing. I make some teas like nettle leaf, rasberry, and red clover but I get intimidated with the mixtures. It gets too complicated and when pregnancy is involved I am really causious. I would go to a trained herbalist and have them get you on some pregnancy specific herbs and a formula specifically for you. I pick mine up from the acupuncturist on Saturday and am soooo excited.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think I am going to take any tinctures. I would never forgive myself if I hurt the baby, even if I was just trying to do the right thing). I think I will stick with my raspberry tea...maybe a little black haw, but that's it.

valentinemommy---hey just thought I'd chime in as I'm a beginning midwifery student and have been reading alot about this lately- I think the red raspberry and nettle are the best during pg as they are uterine tonics and strenghteners. The black haw like cramp bark is a uterine relaxant and is really pretty effective when the uterus is contracting not in a normal uterus. The wild yam might be good though as it helps increase the progesterone, vitex is good for this as well.

Greenchild have you considered black cohosh?--I can't remember if you took that ab pill or not?? I took this for 3 days while waiting to miscarry then did some Mayan abdominal massage and my m/c started the next day. I have been cautioned though that too much black cohosh used to induce m/c can cause too much bleeding and I don't know with the issue you had this time if that would be contraindicated for you. The abdominal massage is great though. It just sets you uterus in the proper postion.

they didn't give me the pill, but that's okay as I started bleeding this week. So hopefully I won't need the D&C either. I'm not cramping as much as I thought I would, and the bleeding was only sort of heavy yesterday. I don't have access to black cohosh (unless maybe Walmart has it in the vitamin section???) so I don't know if I would need it by the time it would arrive in the mail. Basically I think I just need something to make the contractions start.

I've been doing some abdominal massage along with everything else, but I'd sure appreciate pointers on the Mayan massage!
