Wednesday night at 8pm I got a negative OPK, then last night (24 hours later) I got a dark positive OPK. I went home at lunch today and took another test around noon (16 hours or so since my positive) and the line is lighter again, so I got another negative.

Does this mean I ovulated sometime between last night's test and the one I took at lunch today??

Thanks for the responses... I just want to make sure I'm understanding this all. it's only my 2nd month to use OPKs.

I've never used OPKs and the more I look at pictures or hear others talk about them the more confused I get.

You aren't the only one. And to think I'm thinking of trying them next month. I'm not so sure I will know what to do

Well, what I do with my OPK's is I start testing around cd13 (I usually ovulate on day 16-17). I test around 12-2pm because thats when I get my most consistent results and it's whats recommended on the insert that comes with the test. Once I get a positive opk I stop testing. And I do that because if I continue to test and see a lighter line I start freaking out and second guessing myself. LH is released in a surge to tell your ovaries to let go of an egg. Your LH isn't going to surge for days, but you will have some traces of it in your system.

Now, if you don't know when you ovulate, start testing sooner like cd10 (if you think you ovulate on cd14). Do yourself a favor and don't over think this. Test until you get a positive, check your secretions, and the BD like no tomorrow. One other thing, if you are taking basal temps, you will see a dip before (usually around 0.4 degrees) then a spike up in your temp around the same time as your positive opk. I suggest doing both together. Hope this helps!

Something Steph didn't add, was that you usually ovulate within 24 hours after your surge.

For me I start taking them on CD9 or 10. I have very irregular cycles so I never know I will O. They say not to take them early in the morning because they can pick up the HCG from the day before. I've heard not to keep testing after a + but I keep doing it because some months you can get a surge and not really O yet due to stress or other facts. www.peeonastick.com is a very good site to check out. I know I probably made things more confusing but I do have to say that I have gotten a + OPk one day and - the next day and still Oed that day of the +. Some months you may get more then 1 + OPK's in a row and other months you may only get 1. Check out that site and maybe that will help you more. Good luck
