Has anyone else had to have a c section? I had to have one with dd. She was 3 days late. They tried to induce with some pill that put up inside you. That didn't work. I went in one morning to get induced with iv, but her blood pressure kept falling. So they did an emergency c section. The whole ordeal wasn't so bad. I was never in hard labor. I had some labor pains before they did the surgery, but nothing horrible. The recovery sucked though. I was just real sore and my staples kept pulling. Plus I had a small bit of post baby depression. It only lasted for about a week. So, my next one will be a c section also my dr suggests. That's fine with me though. However I can get one here healthy!!!!! Anyway, just wanted to share!

I've had 3 c-sections and never really minded them. Of course, I would've preferred to labor & deliver naturally, but my first were twins and they weren't cooperative. I think the recovery was the worst with the first one - not sure why, but it was. That first time they make you swing your legs over the side of the bed, only 8 hrs after surgery, is a killer! Truly the only thing I hate is the scar tissue - after my last surgery it left my tummy rather unattractive b/c the scar tissue pulls it in leaving an unsightly little shelf - ahh, the souvenirs of children

So hopefully the first is the worst. I was wondering if the others weren't as bad because you know what to expect. Thanks for the info

I had one as a preventative measure, since we had an amnio and knew Mason had severe hemophilia- which is a bleeding disorder that means no forceps, no suction, etc or we could have had hemorrhaging or brain swelling. So we took all the precautions and did a c-section with an extra long incision. Even though he said it's extra long, my scar is super low and not noticeable at all.
Personally, I loved having a planned c-section. All my family could be there and he was supposed to be born at 8am and he was born at 8:02am.. DH stood up and watched the whole thing and thought it was the coolest thing ever. The recovery wasn't bad and I made myself get up and start walking the hall that night on the advice of one of my friends, and that was the best thing I could have done for myself.
So I'll be planning #2 when the time comes (hopefully in November)!

I like knowing when the baby will be here. My OB schedules repeat sections at 39wks, so I can just count back a week from my due date. Of course I suppose I could always go earlier, but given my track record I don't think I'm an early labor gal.

I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one on here that will definitely have another one. My dh watched it all too. The only thing I hated was being in recovery for an hour and not being able to hold dd until then. Other than that, it wasn't so bad. Hopefully the next one will be even better.

How funny - my DH thought it was the coolest thing too. He kept telling me how weird it was to be looking inside me. I always remember at one point I said it smelled like something was burning and he says "Oh, that's just your flesh." NICE!

Oh, how funny! Men say the wierdest things at times like that. My dh was in total shock and awe at the birth of our dh. He was absolutely wonderful through all that and the whole recovery. He stayed in the hospital with me every night until I got out.

I had an emergency c section. It wasn't bad at all. As soon as the removed the catherter I was up and walking. All I could think about was getting home and I knew if I walked my bowels would start moving sooner and I would get to go home. I put DD in the rolling bassinet and DH and I walked and walked until I had to sit down. Had the C section on a Wednesday evening at 7:30 and was relaesed Friday morning. As far as incision I had one stich that pulled and HURT so bad but it was only the one. I hated that. I just made sure to keep p with my pain meds so the pain wouldn't get out of control. I will be having a scheduled c section with this. So I will know the day it is going to be born which will be really cool. One thing my husband did with DD is he wouldn't let ANY ONE hold DD (except him) until I had a chance to hold her. I thought that was so sweet, and he kangarooed her too until I was released from recovery.

Aww, that was sweet of him. With us, my family is usually at home helping to watch the other kids so it's just DH & I at the hospital. I like being able to have a little bit of time with just DH & the baby before everyone comes.

That's great! My dh didn't let anyone else hold her until I got the chance either. That's our privilege to hold our babies first!

oh, that was my only bad experience from having a c-section. I was able to kiss his little forehead right after he was born and DH brought him over to me while I was lying on the table, but then they whisked him away to the NICU to monitor him b/c he is a hemophiliac and these people had no experience dealing with that. So over an hour had passed and my MIL walked down there with DH to see him (and came back to tell me how beautiful he was- of course- made me feel worse b/c I hadn't got to hold him yet) and I was just dying for my baby... I know you all know what I'm saying when I tell you I was ACHING to hold him.. like nothing I had ever felt before in my life.. and they wouldn't bring him down to my room. Finally the doctor called (not my OB, another doctor in NICU) and said they wanted to keep him in the NICU for our ENTIRE stay in the hospital- 3 nights- to monitor him. I started bawling and just kept telling my mom & MIL - I want my baby! DH had gone down to the cafeteria to get something to eat.. Thank GOD my MIL went and got my DH and he came right up and called the doctor and read him the riot act over the phone and said basically that he is our child and they have no reason to monitor him b/c everything was normal and he'd had no issues to speak of.. and he told that doctor to bring Mason to our room RIGHT NOW or that he would come get him from the NICU himself. Needless to say, less 10 minutes later they finally brought him to our room and we kept him there the rest of the stay.
That part was pretty awful.. waiting to hold my baby. But after I held him for the first time everything else was perfect.

Not being able to hold them is the worst. When my twins were born, Sam was fine and was able to be in room with us, but Nat had to stay in the NICU. Everyone was able to go see her, but I had to take some medication for my blood pressure & I could't leave my room for 3 days. My mom took a polaroid of her so I could see what she looked like, but it wasn't until day four that I got to hold here. Having Sam made it easier. I would've really been mad if she didn't need to be there.
