I'm new on this message board. My name is Megan (29) and dh robert is (34). We have been ttc since Sept 2007. I got a bfp on Feb 10th and was so excited. It was my first! Was suppost to have doctors appt on March 6th. I had all the signs heartburn, sore bbs, headaches, etc. But last thursday I starting spotting called doc and they said it could be normal but if you bleed heavy and cramp go to emergency. So I went home and tried to relax. I thought it was getting better but woke up at midnite with bad cramping on my left side and was bleeding pretty good. So dh took me to emergency. They took blood and did ultrasound and then the doctor said he was going to give me a shot of rhogam and that I had a m/c. All he said it would help with the next pregnancy. I was so devistated and I know dh was too!! I really don't know to much about this other than its because my red blood cells will attack anything foreign to my body. I have to go Mon 3rd for more blood work. Don't even think I'm going to see my doctor. I'm really scared because now I'm afraid that maybe I won't ever have a baby. I just have so many questions. Has anyone ever had to have this shot? Not sure where to go from here. How do you move on? And to top my week off, yesterday I got this shirt that I had ordered for my step daughter that says I'm going to be a big sister. Thanks for listening and info would be great. Sorry to ramble on. Good luck to all!!!

Sounds like you have an RH factor. You know about your blood type right? For example, I am A positive, RH+. If I was A positive RH-, and my husbands blood was RH+, my baby could have RH+ blood and my blood would attack the babies blood if and when they mix. Because my RH factor is -, I would develop antibodies that attack the positive RH factor. It could also cause you to hemorrhage after delivery. They usually give you a rho-gam shot around 10wks, 28wks and at delivery. Rho-gam contains IgG. hope this helps.

Thanks. I think I need to be around nutty people right now I see you are pregnant too. COGRATS Hope everything goes well. The shot I guess deals with the rh factor in the blood. I don't even know if I'm rh - yet. But by giving me that shot I'm guessing, thats the info I found on the computer. I go next monday so I hope I will find out more about it. I will let you all know. Thanks again

I am A+ RH - (antibody negative). I didn't get the injection. I hope that I did not become RH sensitized. That would suck. Here is a page I just read.
Rhogam injection
i did some further reading, I understand better about myself. I wouldn't need the injection because of the A+. the RH is unimportant if you are a positive. the RH comes into play if you are a negative. I guess it shows the whether you have been exposed to the antibodies. Forgive me, I am a little slow today.

Hey Megan
I'm O Neg too. I've had this shot with miscarriages and with both my boys. During my pregnancies with my boys I had it at 28 weeks and after they were born. My husband is O Pos and so are both my children. Just like Steph said, the rhogam shot is given to women who have neg RH factor to prevent their bodies from creating antibodies that would be harmful for future pregnancies that were RH positive. So for example if your miscarried child had had pos ( +) blood that blood had come in contact with your blood your body would have created antibodies that would in turn fight this Rh pos blood in the future. So if your next child was Rh pos as well and your blood mixed your body would essentially attack the child because it would recognize the antigens in the Pos blood as foreign. RH incompatibility is very dangerous. But you are safe if you have the shot so it won't affect future pregnancies or your chances of being pregnant again.
I'm sorry for you loss but welcome to the board

Nope, as far as the Rh factor goes the Rhogam is all you need it won't affect you getting pg again.
How long did your dr tell you to wait before TTC again? Usually it's like 2-3 months. Or at least after one cycle. So as soon as that's over go for it. Just know that you'll have to have this shot again each time you get pregnant.

I haven't seen my doctor yet. I go Monday for blood work. That's one thing I'm not happy about. I had called the office friday and they were suppost to have me go in Monday the 25th but then they changed it to Monday the 3rd. I don't even think I will see my doctor. That is one of many questions I have for him. My sister has had a m/c so I have been talking to her. She said the same thing. I really don't plan on waiting 2-3 months. I will wait till my next cycle starts then its on! Thanks for the advice.

I think waiting a little longer to have your blood drawn is probably a good thing. That way your HCG levels will probably be alot lower which means you can start TTC much faster.
