Hi girls. I was wondering for those of you who started birth control after your m/c, when did you start taking it? Do you start taking the day you start bleeding or anytime that week? Also, (and I know this sounds crazy) but I was cleaning out my medicine cabinet and found a packet of bcp that expired in 2003. Would these still work? I just don't want to go back to the doctor but I want to take some time off. I want to start the pill again. Thanks.

I am not sure since it has been such a long time ago, but I believe that I started the pack the sunday following the start of bleeding. I don't know that with those bcp's being so old that I would use those. You might still have a refill?? Or you could phone the dr.'s and ask for a new prescription. I am so sorry you are going through this.

Yeah, I wouldn't use bcp that had expired. It probably wouldn't do anything. And I started 8 days after delivery, but my body fought it and I had to skip a week so I wouldn't have 2 periods.
They say you can start any Sunday (usually just to remind you when you started), so you could probably start whenever.

First off girl i'm so sorry this had to happen to you again
I wouldn't use the expired pills i think they wouldn't be as strong as new ones would. I was on BCP with my very first loss and got pregnant then lost the baby since i didn't know and i was on the pill, the pills i were on made me miss some periods, anyway i lost that baby at 11 weeks found out i was pregnant at almost 10 weeks. After they said my levels were dropping they told me i could take my pill again right away and i did. Hope this helps a little

Did I miss a post? I am confused? Did you have a chemical pregnancy? Don't take expired meds. Some meds lose their strength others increase in strength. I am sorry I don't know what is happening.

I know with my m/c the dr said since I used to be on BCP and had had a pap that she could just give me an Rx. When I told her no she said if I changed my mind to just call them for a Rx.

Danica, I didn't realize this had happened to you and I am so sorry for the rollercoaster you've been thru the past few months. Wow.. what a horrible turn of events for you to go thru again. I am so sorry.
I don't know much about when to take the BCP but I would NOT take the expired meds, JMO..
Hugs to you!

Hey Danica,
Sorry you are going through this. You might just be able to call your doc and ask for the scrip without having to go in. But like the other ladies said I wouldn't take them if they were expired.

Danica,
I'm so deeply sorry you lost another baby!!!!!!
As for the BCP, I started a new pack the Sunday after the bleeding had stopped. I agree with the other ladies in that the pack you found, might not protect you from anything, since it expired 5 years ago.
Girl!!!
