As those of you on facebook may know, we've begun potty training Quinnlyn. She's actually doing really good! I do tend to compare her to my son who was fully day/night trained in one day, but I'm still impressed at how well she's doing. I'd say at this point we are catching 80-90% of all pees. Poop is harder, as she's afraid of it and gets kinda weirded out if it's in her pretty (sticker decorated) potty. But she's getting better. Today she walked to me and pulled at her panties when she needed to poop, so that's improvement! Funny is that she's almost perfect out in public. We can leave the house in a pair of panties and be gone all day and come home in the same pair most of the time (although we use waterproof cloth trainers). Today we went to Walmart and bought her a folding travel seat (sits on public toilet seats) and she couldn't wait to try it out.
So I'm really glad we are doing this. I'm not used to it taking several days/weeks/months so part of me can get frustrated, but it's obvious that she knows what to do and is proud of herself. I love not having diapers to wash. Diapers were boxed up and stored away from day one.
The only hard thing is that she's not all that aware of what to do when she feels the urge. So we have to remind her and take her to the potty on a vague-ish schedule of every hour or so. I think in short time she'll be running to me or the potty when she has to go. We do more of a parent led approach than a child approach. We direct her what to do, she does it, she gets rewarded. It's working. She spends most of the day at home naked from the waist down so that helps to keep her mindful and helps us to get her there faster.
I'm so proud of her. From what I'm reading online it sounds like she's doing better than most two to three year olds!
Anyway, anyone else here potty training? How's it going?

I'm not potty training Vi yet, but she's going to the potty regularly on her own. I'm still trying to decide whether or not to jump in and start directing her or wait another month or two. Lily trained at 17.5 months and she could verbally tell me if she needed to pee or poop and she'd feel the urge first. Violet usually tells me either after the fact or she'll run to the potty on her own.
I'm pretty sure if I started taking her regularly then she'd be potty trained pretty quickly, but we're so busy this week and the next few that I'm not sure how feasible that would be. So, I'm probably going to start when we get back from camping...or maybe while camping since at least if she has an accident we'll be outdoors
Shelly, Quinn doesn't say all that much and I was worried about that, but she learned to say the word "potty" in just a couple days. I've been signing the word too, but she doesn't do that.
Today in Walmart we walked past an aisle of stickers and she pointed and belted out, "POOTTYYYY!!!!". So she definitely knows! (we use stickers as a reward)
I am not going to try to potty train Alex until he is 22 months. If he wants to do it before that time then I will let him, but I am not going to try until then. He still wont walk on his own, so there is no way we would start right now. Congrats on her doing so well!! That is great!!
WTG! We probably won't even think of potty training Charlie until closer to his 3rd birthday

We're doing the same as you! Ro does pretty well although I really have to watch....she's not scared to do #1 or #2 on the potty but she doesn't go to the potty on her own. She will say yes or no if I ask her if she has to potty. You're doing great and congrats to Quinn!
I'm glad we are not alone. Makes me feel less crazy. lol
Today she grabbed her butt and we ran to the potty and she pooped in it no problem! We had a wild dance party afterwards, haha! I love when she has a good breakthrough. Absolutely no accidents in nearly 24 hours too (well, except for overnight)!
Yay quinn! That's amazing! I'm thinking of getting a potty this week to start introducing it...but probably won't be actively training for a while. Everyone I've talked to said it's not really worth it with a new baby coming since it might be too much change for her. It is encouraging to hear that babies this age can do so well!
She is awesome! Can I ask how you started, or what signs made you think she was ready? Layla for many months has done the sign for poo, but always after the fact and generally I'll ask, have you done a poo? And then she signs it. I have brought the potty out just for her to get used to seeing what it is, but I don't know what to do beyond that.
My eldest ds wasn't toilet trained til 2.5 and my 2nd ds was just before he turned 2, so I'm not sure how to start with a young babe. It is winter here so I wouldn't want to start til it is warmer and she can run around with undies on like Quinnlyn! I'm not concerned if she's not ready, but I will return to work next Feb so I would LOVE to have her toilet trained before then so that there's no inconsistency between what daycare and I do.
Also, your ds day/night trained in one day???? WOW that is amazing! I hear of things on the internet that offer things like that - did you do something special, or did he just 'get it'?

I can tell you what I did with Lily since she trained at 17.5 months in a weekend (both night/day trained). She only had a few pee accidents and never a poop accident that weekend and that was it. I just put her in panties and took her every 30 minutes the first day. The next day she went every time by herself and that was it. Super simple! I'm planning to do the same thing with Violet once we're back from camping in early August.
I think Carmen mentioned doing a potty party, which is usually a day of making the potty a huge thing and the child gets prizes/presents etc. It varies in how it's done though I think, but there is lots of info online.

Lenore, Yes, we did a "potty party" when ds was 19 months old (a small one, just he and I). He was much much more verbal and always seeking to please. It was so so super easy with him. One day I told him that the diapers were all gone and now he'd be using the potty like mommy. We spent all day completely naked (well, him) watching movies, reading books and eating salty snacks. And lots and lots of sugary drinks. The kind of drinks they aren't normally allowed. The salty snacks get them thirsty and the sugary drinks soften stool, and keeps them drinking. When he used the potty there was dancing around the room and stickers and such. And in that one day he just.. got it.
I knew not long after Quinn was born that she'd be quite a bit more difficult. Quinn is a temperamental one, always trying to do whatever she wants, whenever she wants. I knew I wanted to start her early, before toddler independence and tantrums peak. I wasn't really looking for signs, because kids are capable of toilet training without any signs beforehand. But she was starting to hide to poop which meant she was at least feeling the urge to poop.
For her one day last week I just did a moderated potty party similar to what I did with ds. She woke up and her diapers were gone and a brand spankin' new pretty pink froggy potty was sitting in the living room in front of our television. I had movies and books and lots of cheetos and lemonade and stickers and brand new pretty girly panties. And we just had her hang out naked and made a day of it. We'd catch some pees and miss some but it wasn't until that night that I could tell she was starting to "get it". Towards the end of the day was when you could see her clench her stomach muscles to try to produce a pee, even if just a trickle. We put a sticker on her potty every time she was successful (and sometimes when she really tried) and she really enjoyed plotting where to put the next one. The next day we spent all day in public (note: try not to do this, try to plan a good few days where you don't have any long days out) and she wore panties (with a cover) all day without one accident. She then had a couple bad days where she'd have more accidents than successes (mostly my fault) and days where she would go all day without one accident. Now a week and a half later she really gets it. She sits right down and pees straight away and asks for her sticker and is pretty trustworthy to be naked or in underware at home all day. I just have to remember to have her try to potty every hour or so.
When people claim that with earlier potty training it's usually the parent that's trained they are a little right. I do have to be mindful to get her to try to potty every hour or so, pull down her pants and situate her on the potty if she uses the adult one. But I am not washing diapers nor filling a landfill with an additional year or two's worth of diapers.
Anyway, sorry, this is long. Hope it helped explain a bit.
Edit to add that had she not progressed at all or not gotten the idea a week or so in I'd have put the potty away and tried again in a couple months.

Thanks Shelley and Carmoma (sorry I can never remember names if it's not in the siggie somewhere!. And don't worry, that wasn't too detailed at all, it was just what I needed to know and I will print it off and have a think for when it gets warmer (couple of months before it will be nudie weather for her!!).
For the boys I read an online potty training book and took them every 30 minutes for the first day - gets a bit exhausting but the author basically said that a lot of parents expect their child to know what a wee or poo is but they need to be taught. Makes for an interesting time anyway!
And I do suspect that your babies would have more idea of when they're wet (therefore already understand what's going on a bit) due to the cloth nappies. I'd always heard babies in cloth nappies tt earlier in genereal.
