Chris and I have thought long and hard about me doing in home childcare for the past few years, but our house is just too small to accommodate it. The new house is over twice as big as our current home so we'll have plenty of space. I'm thinking of taking in three kids and could roughly bring in about 1200 a month. Not a ton, but enough to pay the utilities and put quite a bit into savings. Our goal is for ME to pay all utilities and have our savings account built up to what we think our emergency fund should be (about 7k) all by myself, and Chris would cover everything else and regular savings. I've done daycare centers before and I was a personal nanny for a while, so I have experience. I haven't "worked" in 7 years though so I'm nervous! I won't start until June so I have a ways to get myself ready. I've already begun working on my handbook/policy and contract.

That sounds great! Especially if you have some kind of prior experience. DH and I talked about me doing that but with him sleeping during the day and we also have a small house, we decided it just wouldn't work.

Sounds perfect for you, Beth! I think it's good for kids to grow up with their parent taking care of other children, both mine and DH's mom did in-home daycare when we were kids and it was an excellent experience. I think it taught me a lot of consideration for others as a kid, and DH even got a lifelong friend out of it.
