This is just for fun. I'm having my first baby and there's been a whole cartload of advice thrown at me already. I stick to my doctor's professional, medical advice and it helps to check some of it out here with other mommies. But just for the laugh, what's the wierdest stuff you heard?

Some of mine:-

1. Stop using mobile phones (MIL)

2. If you deprive your body of alcohol when you crave it, it will only harm you, your doc's advice to avoid alcohol is totally debatable! (*Warning from FIL)

3. Eat Coconut for a fair baby (we're brown asians, so Fairness is premium) (Mom)

4. Don't cook for too long on a gas stove - it causes miscarriages (well meaning friend)

5. Don't eat Spinach, Papaya, Pineapple etc. - they all cause miscarriages (another well meaning friend)

6. You should travel abroad, drink alcohol, frolic and do whatever you want to till its time to deliver (since superhuman MIL did this when she was pregnant with hubby or so she claims)

7. "My friend's a radiologist and worked all 9 months in X-ray labs, so no such thing to worry about" (A colleague on why there is nothing to be careful about when pregnant!)

what on earth do people think???

Wow, you've gotten lots of advice!

The advice I got that didn't work for me was from my doula - she wanted me to breathe a certain way (slowly) during labor. I think it was supposed to help relax me, but I hated it.

Hey! yes I think my community is obsessed with this stuff. Everyone's an expert so... what can you do? I know I might be ignoring some good advice at times but the only way to keep my sanity is to simply shut out all of it since 90% is just plain junk and old wives tales....

A pediatrician told me to let Sophie "cry it out" at 4 months old because nursing in the middle of the night was not healthy, and not healthy for me "mentally".

(We found us a new pedi, lol)

I heard that too from an in-law! Although it was so my baby doesn't look "too Asian" (she'll be half)

I was also just told by an aunt-in-law that I shouldn't use computers while I'm pregnant, because when she was pregnant and went near a computer at work the baby started kicking so her boss told her she should stay away from it
