Its completely a personal choice.

For me, my boyfriend and I decided not to. We couldnt find any reasons making it a necessary procedure and I don't want to put my child through something like that unless it's really needed. The only problem we have is that my boyfriend is circumsized so he isn't sure how to teach him to properly clean himself later on, but we'll figure it out.

My hubby is circumcised and he is for it and i'm still on the fence. His mother has made her opinion clear that she thinks we shouldn't because its not necessary. My mom on the other hand is for it. So i'm doing research getting my doctor's and other people's opinion as well as weighing the pros and cons before I make a decision.

If I were having a boy, I would not have him circumcised. I did a lot of research and thinking about this before I found out the sex of my baby because I wanted to be prepared in case it was a boy. And what I found is there's no real medical reason to. Basically, the main pro for it is that circing prevents infection and such that can occur from not keeping the penis cleaned properly... which seems like a really drastic preventative measure - if your kid cuts the tip of his finger it could become infected if it's not kept clean, but no one would cut the fingertip off to prevent it! Plus in most other developed countries (like all of Europe) it's not a common practice at all, and it's not like every guy there is walking around with a dirty infected penis, you know? So I figure if I ever have a son, it'll be his penis, so it should be his decision. Circumcision can be done later on in life and if he wants it he can go for it.

I think it's great that you're looking into it before you make a decision, I think most people just do it because it's the norm in this country without really thinking about it. Good luck!

My husband had to be circumcised last year as his foreskin was making sex painful and difficult, my brother in law had to be circumcised at about 7 years old as his foreskin was tight and painful and couldn't be cleaned properly. If we have a boy, I'll definitely consider circumcising just because of the family problems so far, although it is very much not common practice in the UK. I suppose we could always wait a few years to see if the foreskin is tight and painful, and then decide on whether to do it or not.

We circ'd. Medically no, there's no reason. And for the first couple of years you don't have to clean it as it won't pull back until the child is like 4? I think.

However, I have known several men, who have had to have it done b/c even though they kept it clean it still got infected. It's much much more painful to have it done as an adult or even teen. As all the movement, etc....a baby (newborn) doesn't move a whole lot, so its not as painful.

It's a very personal choice.

I will not having a circumcision done if I have a boy, and I'm a Jew.
I believe it is my son's body, not mine. Therefore, the choice is his alone.

I would def get it done if we have a boy. My husband is not and he wishes that he was. It's cleaner in my opinion and honestly, I think to a certain extent it's a self esteem procedure.

I have to say if it's a boy, I will likely not because I just don't see the necessary nature of it and my friend's boy had a botched job done. Now I'm scared to have anyone near it. It;s not hard to keep clean, 90% of my patients arent and it is not hard to do.

Self esteem? From my understanding guys have more pleasure during intercouse if they are not circumsized. My boyfriend is actually mad that his parents did it to him. *shrug*
To each his own I guess.

Yes self esteem. If you do not know anyone that has went through this issue then I can understand why you would think there would not be any self esteem issues. But from what I have witnessed and seen and know, there are alot. Not only for reasons I will not say BUT it does not look as pleasant.

If I have a boy I will definitely circumcise... My husband is circumcised and has no problem with enjoying sex, it's cleaner, and there are men who have pain from it when they're older. It's a lot more painful to do later in life. As an infant, he won't remember it, either, so might as well get it out of the way.

For what ever reason, I never thought of not having my son circumcised when he is born. DH is okay with it, and so am I. Also, DH is circumcised, so like father like son?

I don't know, like I said, never thought of not getting it done for him. I personally think it's normal to have it done.
