I know we've got a lot of SAHMs around ... how did you decide to stay at home? Did you have a job you left, or were you at home already?

For those of us that work, how did you make THAT decision? What do you do? Was it a difficult decision for you?

I'm pretty blatant about the fact that I work for an ice cream distributor, because I think it's so awesome that I get free ice cream (and, occasionally, frozen food) The decision to keep my job was one I struggled with a little, but finding our amazing daycare made it easier. For me, though, I have found a job that I absolutely love, has a lot of opportunity for career growth, and is with a huge international company that means great benefits and perks. That is really, really hard to find. I know that, if I did stay at home, I would go back to work once our kids started school - after a lot of long discussions with DH, we came to the decision that it would be the best decision for us.

I had decided long ago that SAH was want I wanted to do--I just felt like it's what I needed to do as well. I was an athletic trainer for 10 years and taught High School for 5 of those as well. The hours of an athletic trainer are not great for being a mom--a lot of evenings. While some can do it--I couldn't even imagine!

I SAH right now. I was going to college and finished the month before I was due, so I couldn't really seek employment because really, who's going to hire a 9 month pregnant woman? Since then I've been living with my parents because SO had to move to work and wants to get his bill paid before we move there with him. And it's not worth it for me to work because my whole check would go to childcare for him pretty much. I'd really like to SAH in the future too but I don't think it will work out that way.

For us I have always wanted to be a SAHM and it was also a financial decision the money I was making wouldn't cover daycare so why not SAH?

I'm very blessed to have 2 part time jobs at home bringing in 40-50 hrs per week. If I didn't have that, I'd be a SAHM as well. Daycare in Austin is expensive, and I don't want anyone else taking care of Ben.

Well I wanted to be with my son as much as possible. So we decided for me to stay home. We were in Florida when I got pregnant. We did not want to have our kid there, so we moved back home. That is how I left my job in Florida to come back to Texas.

DH never had his mum at home as a kid and always wanted his kids to have what he couldn't. I'm also still at school.
