This was recently discussed in a Dear Amy column in the Wash. Post--as a pregnant woman, do you mind being called glowing? So you mind if people comment on how you're showing (wow, that baby is really growing! Do they think it's twins?.....)

I never minded comments bc it was the first time I had an excuse for gaining weight! It never bothered me--even when I wore a purple shirt and everyone (incl. DH) called me Barney My sister on the other hand HATED any comments related to weight, shape, showing....she was devastated

i'm not really showing yet, i just look fat, but i would be delighted if someone did notice my pregnant belly. as for glowing, i think thats sweat. But i still think that its ment to be a compliment, so i'd take it as one!

I enjoyed people noticing my belly at first. Nobody seemed to notice for a long time, and for those I was close to it was like "your baby is definitely growing" and I was glad to see that too. But by now, it gets old. My coworkers seem to talk about it all the time and the comments haven't been as nice!

When I told coworkers the ob/gyn said I didn't gain any weight at the last appointment one said "your Dr is lying! you definitely gained weight there!". Other comments included "if erica falls down I'm not picking her up" and "is your boyfriend going to come pick you up if you bend down to get that?". "you're so big you're going to pop any moment!", "when I was pregnant I gained 18lb and it was DISGUSTING" (she was 97lb to begin with and I'd just told her I hadn't weighed that since I was 12!).

I am so glad there are two other pregnant girls where I work! They make me look a lot smaller, even though I still pretty much just look fat anyway, but yours just seem mean! I will sooo happy if I only gain 18 lbs. She sounds anorexic! As long as you gain between 20 and 30 it's totally healthy. Oh, well. They are just jealous!

I have been on maternity leave since Dec 2nd, but at least the people at my work were nice. I can't believe people would say stuff like that.

I have always been a big girl. When I got preg I was a 14/16 & felt I just looked fat until about my 30th wk, when my belly actually started looking like a typical pregnant belly. Though I loved all the glowing & "she's popped out" comments. The only thing I was getting a little tired of, was being asked everyday "how you feeling?" Especially since I have had a pretty easy pregnancy & never had any kind of sickness.

I was happy when people started commenting because that meant I didnt just look fat anymore... you could actually tell I was prego instead of chubby, haha. The thing that bothers me is when complete strangers come up and rub my belly. That weirds me out!

If someone invaded my personal space in that way, I might have to invade their personal face space with my hand.
