So, the doctor said that given my age he would advise trying asap, especially given that once my IUD comes out it could take up to 6 months for my cycle to regulate.
He said that it's advisable for me to come off my amitriptyline altogether while ttc/pregnant, but that people do take it during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks (which are basically that the baby can be effectively "sedated") so I didn't need to wait until I'd weaned myself off. And also that once I have weaned myself off, if I start struggling with my IBS I can go back and they can re-prescribe a low dose.
So I have phoned the family planning clinic and the IUD is coming out tomorrow! Yes, you heard right, tomorrow!
The only bummer is that he did say we should try at least 3-4 times a week and especially over O week, making sure to have sex on day 14 of my cycle. I explained that we couldn't do that because of DP being away at university but we would just have to try as much as possible weekends and holidays and hope it coincides. There's not really a lot I can do about that because I have responsibilities here and I can't whip Daniel out of school just like that. We'll worry about that I guess if I'm not pregnant in a year and DP may be able to transfer to a closer university after his first year so we can live together sooner.
But, other than that, we are (almost) go - I can't believe it!
