Did anyone else get any pre pregnancy blood work done? And if so, what did they check out? The doc got me to get sugar, iron and thyroid levels checked, full blood count, chicken pox and rubella immunities checked and I asked them to check CMV exposure while they were at it. Luckily my immunities to those three are there so that's good to know seeing as im in childcare. Is there any testing you would want to get done before falling pregnant?
I went t othe doc and said "im going off the pill and im worried about CMV because of where i work, is there anything else i should check?" and thats what he got me to check. Its probably easier fir me in Australia though because doc visits and blood tests dont cost me money.
Free if you can find a doctor who bulk bills but the ones who dont are about $50. I dont know what it costs over there. CMV is cytomegalovirus (unsure if spelling is right). Because i work in childcare im at a bigger risk for it. just produces coldlike symptoms for the person who catch it but can cause lots of defects and even kill a baby if you catch it while you are pregnant. Kids are.usually the big carriers and.pretty much everyone has had it when they were little. Probably being overly cautious but i would be devastated if anything happened
