With your toddler in a toddler bed do you have a gate at the door or just shut the door?

Connor's still in his crib, but we always shut his door at night. I guess if he can open doors once he moves to a toddler bed, then we'll put a gate at his door. I wouldn't want him wandering downstairs by himself in the morning.

Is Matthew in a toddler bed now or are you just thinking ahead?

When we moved Cameron to a toddler bed he slept on the floor for a couple of nights too. I just closed his door a touch and we still use a monitor to listen for him so we know the second he gets out of bed. He almost always waits for us because that is the routine we have set for him. He's now in a big boy bed but the same applies. He's kinda lazy in the morning and just snuggles with us for like 30min until he wakes up so we've never had to worry about him. He's woken up a few times at night, but he comes straight into our room right away or cries in his bed to let us know he needs us.

If you are concerned then use the gate. We close his door to keep it darker in his room so he can sleep better. But a gate is not out of the question for us and is a great way to keep your little one safe.

When I switch him over I will keep a gate at his door until he is potty trained at night and then I will just keep the gate at the top of the stairs.
