That's great!! I hope this goes nationwide soon!

"It's not that we oppose a particular mandate," says Susan Pisano of America's Health Insurance Plans, a Washington-based association that represents health insurers. "We oppose the idea of mandates in general because we think in the end what happens is that health care is less affordable and less accessible when mandates are imposed."
What is "less affordable" than already spending $70k-80k for therapy?

Its not just health ins. co. What about the makers of therapy aids and therapists in general. If there werent sooooooooo many people trying to make a buck off autism insurance wouldn't be as big of an issue. But my gosh paying 400$ for a weighted blanket that cost what 5-10$ to make? Come on! 100$ for a weighted vest that I could have made myself for less than 20$. If they would lower their prices a bit maybe ins co wouldn't be so stubborn! DAN dr. charging 800$ a visit and NOT accepting any insurance at all? That is crazy. Sure they do more than a reg. pedi but not enough more to charge an extra 700$.....they do it becuase they know that as parents we'll do what it takes to pay them. And that's not right....imo.

Its like that with everything unfortunately. We've gone through it for yrs. When dd became eligible for therapy through school(PT and OT for her physical disabilities....not the AS dx), ins. would not pay for outside therapy. Unfortunately, if this goes nationwide for autism, all the other dx's that children get therapies for through school will want the same considerations. The more ins. covers, the higher the premiums will be.
