Do you feel having a DD child stops you doing some things, if so, what?

Or do you feel the opposite, that it makes you more determined to do things other families do?

Ryan does stop my family from doing things like we are use to. We have to put extra planning into going to birthday parties or holiday gatherings. We have to put extra planning into family vacations and every day tasks. Ryan's smile vs. a teary meltdown is all the push I need to make the extra effort.

Going to restaurants with A.J rarely happens. It's just to much for him. Even with the iPad he can only take so long. Plus with his age, it's not a good combination. We might try it more as he gets older.

Ryan was bad about going to restaurants. We only go to a select few on the off hours.

We try to keep days out a regular fixture, including chores, family visits and actual days out to the zoo etc.

What I have found is that if it's a regular thing Daniel remembers what is expected and responds well. He also gets off his energy a lot better if he's been out and about getting fresh air and stimulation.

I couldn't take him out much over the summer due to going very overdue with baby and then being out of action with the c-section recovery. And the first couple of times we took him out in half-term we had tears, screams and tantrums. But once we'd been firm, took him home at the first sign of naughtiness etc, and reminded him of the expectations, he was fine again.

The one thing we do have to plan carefully or not go at all is family parties. Daniel is very funny about loud noises in general and music/bands/DJs come under that category for him. I love family parties so it does make me sad that we can't always go.

yes I absolutely feel it does stop us from doing some things, namely going to restaurants, we have to be more careful what type hotel we choose, we can't goto places where there is fear of them being lost, (ie disney or other theme parks) but we do try to still do most things

Alice definitely stops us from doing things. We don't go to movies or a lot of restaurants. We do take out if we want to eat out many times. We can go shopping as she loves to walk around, but when it comes to sitting, forget it!

Church is starting to become really hard. Nursery workers are scared to care for her. She's not violent, they just have no DD/SN experience. I want to go, but church is only so much fun if you spend every Sunday in a nursery with bad speakers. My mom used to go with her on Sunday mornings and attend church on Sunday evenings, but we've noticed she completely SUCKS at taking care of children in general so that's out of the picture now.

I hope she calms down as she gets older.

We would love to go to the movies more, but we can't take Kat. We work around it with a sitter for her or if we aren't taking the boy, we go for a matinee before they get out of school.
