We tried the GFCF diet with Hunter back when he was first diagnosed for about 6 months, but I saw no difference. He rarely eats what we eat, his personal menu has been set for many years, so yes, I do cater to him. He has been better about trying new things, but we have learned that this isn't always a good thing! If he doesn't like the texture, he gags and vomits. He's getting better. Before he wouldn't eat any kind of pasta, but now he eats any kind of noodle with butter and parmesean cheese.

I am a breastfeeding, cloth diapering, co-sleeping, no crying it out, baby wearing mama of 3 boys, one of which has autism. Meet my boys here (having technical difficulties with my website). My blogs are On Top of Mt. Laundry and The Cache Checkers.
He is very picky. I always give hime 3 things: 1 I KNOw he will eat, 1 I know he used to eat,and 1 It hink he will refuse. That way he is exposed to it in the hopes he tries it. he almost tried meatloaf agian the other day, touched to his lips, but he walked away. He used to eat it all the time! He has lost MANY foods! We are pretty much nuggets, fries, and junk food only We were doing the gf/cf for a coupla months but the only changes I really saw were in my checkbook! Actaully, he got WORSE.....his stimming became outta control!
I was looking over the GCFC diet at this site: http://www.talkaboutcuringautism.org...m-dietinfo.htm
The only thing Gus will eat that is on the diet list is peanut butter! I am really torn - it seems like an awful lot of work to get a child as picky as mine to eat the diet foods. There is a section at that site that talks about getting a picky child to change his diet and by that method it would take us 6 months! If I put that much effort into it and it didn't have a positive effect I would be really really disappointed and more than a little angry. I wish i could meet someone for whom it has actually made a difference and talk to them about it. People are always recommending it to me based on what they have read or seen on TV but no one has any first-hand knowledge or experience (except you who replied but it didn't work for you) so I don't feel encoyraged to try it - yet I think if I don't try, then I'll never know if it could have made a difference . Hmmm.
